I figured I would share what just happened to me so maybe it won't happen to anyone else.
Well, I just got back from taking the puppy on a walk and he was tired so I figured I would let him stay in for awhile. I fixed my other dog some chicken and rice (for her stomach) and gave it to her and I gave the puppy a treat. Then I went to go to the restroom. All the sudden, the smoke alarm started going off. Apparently the puppy had jumped on the side of the oven and turned some of the knobs which got hot and ignited my oven mitt that was on one of the burners. I dumped water on the thing to put the fire out; now I have scorch marks on the side of the oven and on the wall, and am less one oven mitt. I wasn't even gone two seconds. I had never even thought of him doing that, although he has figured out how to jump on things and can reach most anything (he is a big puppy 40+ pounds at 3 months of age!). Well, I'm going to set up some sort of gate into the kitchen, and also be sure not to leave him unsupervised. What if I had gone outside for a few minutes!?! or gotten into the shower!?! The whole house would have been in flames in no time at all.
Just thought I'd share this as this was not something I would have thought about previously.

Thank god you were home. Another thing that might help you, my daughter always turned on my stove (gas) and I bought these knob protectors at Toys-R-Us they go over top of stove knobs and cant remember how but you squeeze a certain way to turn burner on. My daughter could never figure out how to turn the stove on after that. And lucky I learned how to use them. They are relativly inexpensive. Should be in the baby safety section.

Got to Kmart or walgreens or target. They have the same kind of gates as petco but much less expensive. You can double them up on each other if needed.
