Hi, I have a problem. It is totally my fault, but hereit goes. I made the mistake of giving my dogs people food mixed in with their dog food as well as canned food mixed in with their dry food. It has gotten to the point now that they will not eat their dog food they like out all the people food and leave the rest. My husband says I should just give them their dog food and sooner or later they will get the hint and start eating it. So I tried it for one day and the looked so sad I broke down gave them people food, they just looked so sad. I evidentally have no backbone. Their sad little faces looking at me while I ate my food kills me. I need to know if I should do what my husband says, he says they will not starve themselves that when they get hungry enough they will eat. Do you agree or does anyone have any ideas PLEASE. By the way for the record my husband broke down also, evidentally he also has no backbone. Thanks So Much! IP: Logged |

awwww....such softies! I completely understand. I'll tell you a little secret of ours, well actually Granvel started it and now its a must! The first time we took Charllotte and Smokey for a ride into town, we stoped at McDonalds for a cheese burger. Well we bought the dogs plain meat, cheese, buns. Now, everytime we go anywhere where they can see the arch, Charllotte gets soooo happy, jumps around in the back seat, whines, barks, and goes plain nuts until we stop. If we don't, she sulks in the back seat and looks sooooo depresses and sad, that we have to stop. Itsn't it awful!!! They are like kids. Thank goodness they aren't in it for the toys!

I have that same problem. I fed my dog Megan Iams, and she wouldn't eat it unless we put people food in it (and then she ate around the dog food!!) We gave she people food a lot, so now she is spoilded and will beg us for food at dinner time. We tried a different kind of foos about 2 months ago. It's called Pro Plan, and she seems to like it, although she does prefer people food. Another thing that has god her to eat was putting her food and water in an elevated dog food and water bowl holder, she drinks more water now. But her food was in a different place before, she now she refuses to eat the food. We put her food back were it was before and she seems to be eating it, but only when she is really really hungry!!! Oh my goodness....we talked about this the other day, and I'm in the same boat...in fact, I can't remember the last time Shug ate HER FOOD. I am now COOKING FOR HER. Made her great snacks with the recipes on this board and added and revised my own plan too. She lovesssssss Applesauce rounds...and chicken and real carrots disk. She got 2 of those this morning, with a scrambled egg. For lunch, she had summer sausage, cheese and another applesauce snack. Can you believe it ? We give her the same meat we have every night. Like chicken breast...she gets her own...bacon this morning...she got her own. We are finding ourselves just adding another portion to our meals for her. It doesn't bother me except she isn't POOPING as much. Maybe twice a day sometimes....but usually only once. AND, she doesn't move that easily. I can give her her favorite snack of apples and peanut butter and in 20 minutes she's gotta go, gotta go, gotta go, so I do that often. I do seem to have myself in a jam here....I don't know what she'll ever do when we board her again. She is some spoiled rotten with this eating thing and I DID IT ALL BY MYSELF !! BLESSINGS ALL IP: Logged |
