Hi I'm new here and have a question regarding my rat terrier Lucy Lou. She had three puppies December 1st and while they are doing fine she looks like a skeleton. She eats three to four times a day and still looks this way. They are suckin her dry. Is there any kind of special food I can give her to help her gain some weight. After she had the pups my vet suggested giving her puppy food for extra nutrients but it doesn't seem to be helping. I have even helped her out by bottle feeding the pups . Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ask your vet, they have a supplement you can give her to help her produce more milk. Just keep an eye on her and leave her plenty of food constantly.

Hi, You dont need any special diets for a lactating mum if she has lost alot of weight simply feed her 4 times aday in between feed her boiled chicken with rice.
Give her a puppy substitute milk aswell as water and withing a couple of days she will regain her weight.
If she has not been wormed now is the time to do it since puppies are over 2weeks old they can be wormed aswell as mum with a proper puppy wormer.
I worm my bitches the week before they are due to give birth then 2weeks after along with worming the puppies.

if you would like more help please feel free to email me boro_lad1976@hotmail.com
