Help, I'm at my wits end with my dog. At first it seemed Bailey was marking his territory after my daughter got a male puppy that lives with us. He's started with peeing on the rugs, then the corners in the house to peeing inside shoes. Now it's really bad. His next targets were any bags on the floor like the recyling bag. He wasn't fussy if it was paper or plastic. The ultimate insult came today. We left for maybe 30 minutes. I went to get my new & expensive digital camera off the kitchen table and I noticed it was wet. Then I realized it wasn't water but urine. He got up on the table and wet on the camera & the plastic bag next to it. I'm so disgusted with him, I've even thought about putting him to sleep. Bailey is a purebred toy poodle about 5 years old. We've had him to the vet and there is nothing wrong with him. He is going in the kennel when we leave. He has even peed in the house while we are home tho. Anyone have any suggestions? IP: Logged |

Is he neutered? I also have a toy poodle that was doing the same thing in his previous home after his owners brought home a male puppy....this is one of the reasons he was rehomed with me. His marking decreased considerably once he was neutered at 5yrs old but then it started up again as the (intact) male puppy began reaching maturity....then they had 2 dogs that were marking all over their house. He does'nt mark in my home and lives with several cats and a female dog. My suggestion is to get him neutered if you have not done so already and to also have the male puppy neutered as soon as he is old enough. In the meantime, you can try one of those Comfort Zone plug-ins which are supposed to have a calming effect on anxious or stressed dogs and a "belly-band" which are designed specifically for male dogs that lift their legs indoors. Best of luck. IP: Logged |

P.S. If all else fails I would seriously consider rehoming him (in a single dog home) over having him put to sleep because it sounds like his behavior is directly related to the presence of the new male puppy. IP: Logged |

Just a thought. My dog was peeing all over my new rose bushes. So, I put some drops of pure tea tree oil on the sleepers around the garden, he doesn't like the smell. Haven't had a problems since. Maybe you might dilute it in a spray bottle and spray where needed. [This message has been edited by Sailor (edited 12-29-2003).] IP: Logged |

they do have the elastic bands you can use while he's inside. Smokey started this and he no longer comes inside. Your dog is feeling threatened and is marking everything that he thinks is his. You can consult a behavioral specialist and they can help you as well. Don't result in putting them to sleep just because he pees on stuff. you have other alternatives. Leave him outside, kennel him while your away, and have him neutered. IP: Logged |
