Duke, the Lab, seems to be ingesting a lot of long fur from Freckles during their normal play and wrestling. We added Freckles to our home about six weeks ago. It has caused Duke to twice throw up late at night though just a bit of foam, probably from a hair stuck in his throat. Then I noticed that his poop is full of hair. I have now heard that this could lead to a blockage in his intestine so I am concerned and wondering if there is a suppliment I should give to Duke. Has anyone run into this problem? Thanks. I have never had this problem... but I have had my puppy accidentally eat my hair... (I have long hair) and then when he poops, it sometimes gets stuck, and porter (my 8 month old puppy) will start crying and running away from the poop that is stuck hanging by a hair... I hate to be graphic... but it's difficult to explain. I was once told, that coating his dry food with a little olive oil once in a while can help with the entire digestive system, so maybe it could help Duke. But I have never tried this, so I might be wrong. I wish I knew more! good luck. tina IP: Logged |

first of all... ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! oh my god! the visual i got from the puppy running from it's poop! ahahahahahahaha! I haven't run into this problem with my dog but when i had cats a long time ago, that is a common problem with them. They even have a malt or fish flavored oil based suppliment that you give them 2x a week that helps them pass the hair balls. You should check with your vet to see if giving him something like that or the olive oil would be appropriate. It may not be too much of an issue because puppy hair is pretty short and flexible. Ok, they said that the laxatone is ok for dogs as well. I still recommend regular grooming and brushing of Freckles to keep any loose hairs from getting into Dukes mouth. IP: Logged |
