my dog had an allergey shot yesterday and i gave him Atarax pills today and then i left for 1 hour. he drank a huge bowl of water (way more than normal) and peed in my bed, his bed and the couch in huge volumes. it looked like it happened while he was sleeping. his breathing seems a bit labored now too. could this be a reaction or something else? should i go to the emergency? nothing like this has ever happened and i am really worried.

I would call the emergency vet clinic, explain his symptoms and ask for their advice. Better safe than sorry.

Sounds like he could have a problem w/ his bladder. Also, he might have a problem w/ his kidneys, from him drinking more than usuall.
Call his Vet to get a better answers on this.

What does the Atarax do for him?
Sounds like he could also be allergic to the shot given... What kind of allergies does he have, & what kind of dog??

chester is a 100 lab mix. i found him in the desert. he was starving and had been shot twice.
he started to lick his paws alot a few months ago, then his ears got very itchy. the doctor thought the atarax would help.i think he was allergic to the stuff so i didn't give him anymore.

MANNNN!?!?!
Believe me, Karma is ALL-OVER those Greasy Bastards !!!!!

Sounds like your Lab could be having Food allergies.

I'm guessing the Atarax is an anti-inflamatory/anti-itch type shot, right?

It could be the beginning of m a n y different things.
I'd get the opinions & advice from like 4 or 5 diferent Vets. See what they narrow it down to, by majority.

If he received an "allergy shot" it was probably a steroid-steroids can cause excessive urination and thirst. Atarax is for his itching-it probably is making him drowsey..probaly why he peed in the bed.

Ask your Vet about using Prednisone to help with the allergies. It worked great for my old Lab. As with most anti-allergy medications it does increase thirst therefore water intake and a greater need to be allowed outside. You also must try to track down the cause, most often food related. There have been many post here in the past concerning allergies so it might help to go back and read some of the suggestions.
Good lunk.
