Well, our 11-year old white boxer was diagnosed with cancer about 2 years ago but was still a very healthy and active dog. Just 1 week ago he stopped eating and would sleep outside in the grass (26 degree weather). We tried many different foods and he wouldnt eat them and his stomach became bloated. We took him to the vet and the vet extracted lots of fluid from his abdomen. Was this cancer that spread to his lungs or what happend? The vet said she could try tests out to determine whats wrong with him, but the poor dog was just suffering so much that she suggested he be put to sleep. Now I can't stop crying and I don't think my Christmas will be very happy after all, but I'm in the confort that he is alas resting in peace. Any opinions on what you think was wrong would help out. Thanks and God bless. IP: Logged |

Hi, I'm from L.A. too. I'm so sorry about your dog. His cancer may have spread to different organs and they were not able to do what they were supposed to do. Maybe thats what casued the water retention or bloat. I feel sad for you. Things will get better though. You have many wonderful memories. You did what was best for your little sweetie. Please don't beat yourself up over this. No-one wants to see their dog have to continue in pain. I'm sure he undertood. Probalby kicking back with you right now by your side. Try to have a merry christmas. When you are ready there are boxer rescues out there. www.amrt.net has alot of rescues on their site. I found my two online. Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Our pets are like our family, i know that. Please try not to dwell on it too much, you obviously did all you could to help him. He is no longer in pain, and in some small way that should help knowing that. Again I am so so sorry!! He wouldn't want you to hurt this bad, and God knows how much you loved him. He will comfort you during this sad time. I'll pray for you and yours, Susan IP: Logged |

I agree with Susan. You did everything you could for him. Please be comforted by knowing you did everything you possibly could for him and there was nothing else you could have done. Remember the wonderful memories and use Christmas to celebrate his life. He loved you too and wouldn't want you to be unhappy especially during Christmas. Take care and remember we are all here if you need to talk. IP: Logged |

Thank you all so much for your comforting words. I guess it's only human to try to put the blame on yourself when you lose a loved one. And it seems I was doing that. But all your gentle words have been soothing to my scars. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and God bless you. IP: Logged |
