(I think). As you know I posted awhile back I put Jake on Innova but he started scratching and got lip fold pyroderma. Well I switched him to a royal canin allergy brand that he sudeenly stopped eating. I then bought natural balance, duck and potato. The smell was too horrible to tolerate. I then tried the Natural balance premium dry a month ago. Well Jake has the pyroderma again and this morning he has a terrible ear infection. And the like ingredients are chicken as the #1 ingredient. He has had chicken food in the past but in the less quality food, that is why he probably had reaction but less of it and the quality food had more of it triggering these more severe reactions. At least that is my new conclusion that I hope is right and I will put him on the duck and potato ( even though I have to hold my breath to feed him) he did like it. If this doesnt work out I will try those frozen meat things. I havent ben able to get my husbandto agree to it, so it may be my last resort but after comparing the ingredient lists I am almost certain it is the chicken IP: Logged |

My first Lab suffered food allergies but a plain Lamb and Rice formula worked for him. Here is a site I found where you can check the ingredients of a large selection of different dog foods: http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/dept_brands.asp?dept%5Fid=1&brand%5Fid=93&mscssid=JB1N7ADWD6GF9NNRRLKHTEM9SPBJFFME I found that most do contain some sort of chicken however, if nothing but chicken fat. dukesdad - thanks for the thread. There is also a good one on natura that tells what the ingredients are too and what they mean. What is it with labs! Poor Jake. He just got off of 3 weeks of antiobiotics for the pyroderma. and no he is going to have to go back on it. Honeybear IP: Logged |

My old man was also named Jake. He was most allergic to flea bites. Just one bite would turn his skin red and itchy all over. From age six months until he passed away at almost fifteen I kept prednisone tablets to give when a flare up occured. You asked "What is it with Labs!" Well I guess they can't be absoutely perfect but thet sure are close. Love our Labs. IP: Logged |

I'm glad you were able to narrow down the allergy to chicken. Our yellow lab puppy seems to be doing an awful lot of scratching as well and I'm going to check the ingredients in the food we feed her. What is lip fold pyroderma? IP: Logged |
