I have two dogs Jasper and Miah and to cut along story short my Husband is moving to Queensland while Im staying in New South Wales to work and will be re-locating in about 6-8months. My problem is that my Husband wants to take Miah with him and I want to keep Jasper with me, which means the dogs will be separated for that 6-8 month period.

Will the dogs forget each other when I finally move up to Queensland with him? Visits will be happening once a month.

I was told by a trainer that it takes a puppy about 6 months to forget an owner. She said an adult dog takes more like a few years. Personally, I'm not sure they ever forget.

I would think it would be the same with other dogs. So no, I don't think they will forget each other. They may have to reestablish their positions in the pack when they are back together, but they will work it out.

They may miss each other, though. I would think that is pretty likely.

Personally, i don't have experiance in this.
But, i don't think they would totally forget each other.
If anything, i think that they might have separation anxiety.
Those monthly visits sounds like a good idea (as long as Jasper goes with you too ).
Who knows, maybe their (Jasper & Miah) bond will become even stronger when the 6-8 month period is over.

Good-Luck

i agress with the last message, the most likely problem you will have will be the dogs missing each, if they are anything like my dogs if they are seperated for an hour they cry and whine for each other, dogs ave been proved to have good memories so wouldn't worry about them forgeting each other

The dogs will re-unite with each other once a month aswell, so hopefully they will remember each other. I'd send Jasper away with the hubby but I'll miss her like crazy and I want her with me. Well I can only wait until this all takes place and I'll let you all no how we both are holding up. THanks for the advice.
