My 3 1/2 month old Pitbull/Weimarinar mix puppy was just diagnosed with having HOD(Hypertrophic Osteodistrophy) a common disease that strikes large to medium breed puppies between 3-6 months old. Basically it has to do with the puppy growing to fast and causing space between the growth plates and it makes for extremly painfull and swollen joints in the long bones of the front and rear legs. My poor guy can't walk and is just soo sad! This came on rather suddenly as he started limping last monday, and then was fixed tuesday and also vacinated. I have read in some places that vaccinations can bring on this disease more as they lower the immune system. But who knows. My little baby is currently is taking antibiotics and painkillers to help him. He is eating well and drinking water which is a plus,as not eating or drinking can cause them to get very sick. Basically this disease is all about time and patience and lots of TLC. He will grow out of it but it will take some time. Once he grows out of it he should be able to lead a normal puppy life, but it is the waiting that is killing me. I feel sooo bad for him. Luckily I work from home so I can always be with him. Has anyone else gone through this disease? I have been wanting some one to talk to that has been through it ,as it is just heartbreaking to watch. Please if anyone has been through this please reply, I need support. Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your pup, I kind of suspected that from your other post. My German Shepherd had a similar problem caused by rapid growth so I know how you feel. The difference is ...you have way more information than I did when I had to go through this. I wish I had known then what I know now or had had the access to the computer to look it up. I think you will find much support here...we all love our dogs and hate to see one going through a rough time.

That was my suggestion. Glucosamine chondroitant supplements.
