We got our dog Emma from the pound, advertized as a shepherd/lab mix. Now, 2 years later, we've seen a lot of pictures and heard descriptions that make us think she is a purebred anatolian shepherd. Has anyone else had this type of experience? IP: Logged |

it sounds like the anatolan shephard is not so common, and people at the pounds usually stick the name "Lab" in almost every dog, even if it doesnt look like it at all. I think they use it because people love labs and they are easier to adopt if they attach lab to it and if you maybe said it was a pure shephard. people would think twice. Honeybear IP: Logged |

Shepards are cool dogs to have and very protective. I've had three as a kid and I loved them. People at the shelters have whomever that has the time and digital camera to come and photo them, many times the picture taker has a big kind heart but does not seriuosly know their breeds. I've seen many dogs mis-named. Yours may just be a pure bred anatolian. I saw a beautiful Borzoi (sp)can you believe it. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Most of the people at shelters don't know a lot about dog breeds. They usually label dogs with whatever common breed they happen to look like. Occasionally shelters have someone who really know what they are doing, but usually people are just guessing. It is very common for dogs to be mis-labeled at shelters. IP: Logged |

YEA, can you just imagine - a friend of mine got a lab mix. (but iwas from a BYB) it looked almost identical to my pur yellow lab when they were pups. Poor thing now it looks like a cross between a great dane and a lab and it is deformed looking and it is huge! I wonder if it is partially due to what people have been posting about feeding large breed pups wrong food sinc ehtey had no idea what they were getting into. I also had cancer at 5 years old but is curretnly in remission Honeybear IP: Logged |
