Hi,

My husband and I recently bought a Lhasa puppy online (I know it wasn't the brightest idea). The breeder took a forever to ship the pup, she gave me every excuse there was. After a month, we couldn't take it anymore, My husband flew to Florida for the puppy. When he got home and I open the carrier only to find a Shih Tzu puppy. I called her to explain my dilemma, which stated that they are similar breed and often mistaken for each other. But she said he was a Lhasa Apso. Even though I knew in my heart what the breed was, I let it go. I took him to the Vet and the groomers and they both confirmed he was a Shih Tzu. She still stood my her statement, even though I still haven't received my AKC or CKC papers.
Can some1 tell me if there is such a place that that I can take him to prove that he is a Shih Tzu?
Don't get me wrong, I think Shih Tzus are fascinating dogs, but I wanted a Lhasa apso because I prefer that breed and we have another Lhasa.

Write to both registries explaining and include clear photos of front, back and each side of the dog. Include copies of any contract or other paper work you may have. State that you have not recieved your papers. If the registries won't register the dog and they state in their correspondence to you that the dog does not appear to be the breed she says it is, you can take her to small claims court. Maybe contact an attorney on the matter as well, a consult is often free or costs very little. It's not the first time I have heard of this happening either.

that happened to a relative. they went to a pet shop and bought what they thought was a shihtzu cross and it turned out to be a tibetan terrier! but as it didnt come with papers and it was from a pet shop they let it go. id do what maisey said, take it to the registries and get them to confirm what it is and if it isnt what the breeder said it was then court it is!

Hi, I would be furious!!!! You must have realy wanted that dog, for your husband to fly and pick it up. What I don't understand is: why didn't he pick up the papers, when he picked up the pup? Do you have a contract, that states that you paid for a Lhasa Apso? Were there other puppies there when Hubby picked him up?
Anyway, I'D TAKE THEM TO COURT! and let them know in advance, that that's your plan. That might make them do the right thing. Some people have 0 class...Good luck! Susan

I think some people count on the fact that you'll fall in love, and drop it...How dare them!!!

Hi Jamiya,

We thought about give him away, but my husband has gotten attached to him. We are getting a third dog (this time I will go directly to a Lhasa Apso breeder), therefore I won't feel so disappointed.

Oh man, sorry to hear about your delima!! I would be appaled at the breeder!!! If she couldn't tell the diffrence, she needs help!! They are very diffrent, any groomer, breeder, vet can tell you that!!!

I would definately ask for your money back and return it, as for your husband, tell him if he wants him, forget the situation.

But if he wants the other, he's going to have to let go.

I'm sorry to hear that, good luck!

I don't think I could return a dog, either. Good luck finding another dog and we want pictures!

hi susan i have herd of this happening time and time again around the province i live in, a girl i worked with she wanted a shih tzu for her little girl for x-mas and the night before they got the puppy to realize that they got a lhasa apso puppy, her little girl was very upset she didnt get her shih tzu santa was supposed to bring. so what she did was took the people to court and got the puppy for free and the court decided to dis-allow the people from selling puppies under the false circumstances "telling their customers one thing and being another" and the word spread about that breeder via radio and local news on tv, soon after they stopped selling pups.
I dont know if this will help you at all or maybe even get you pionted in the right direction but this should be delt with thats for sure in my opinion.

I would think that maybe you can keep the dog, but get it for free, because you were sold the wrong dog. That way you and your husband are happy. You aren't paying, and he gets the dog! Good luck and hope it all works out! Will be praying for you!
