Hi, When I got home from work tonight, i noticed that one of Caseys eye's were clouded over with a blue tint. She looks blind in that eye. I'm calling the vet in the morning, but I'm scared to death that something realy bad, is wrong with her. In every other way, she seems fine. Has anyone ever experianced this before? If anything happened to her, I'd freak! Susan IP: Logged |

cataract perhaps? thats what cloudy eyes usually mean. if things do go bad [she goes blind in that eye] i wouldnt worry too much. if shes not in any pain she probably doesnt know the difference =] IP: Logged |

Hi Susan I hope everything goes well with your little Casey. It's horrible not knowing what's wrong so once you've been to see your vet you'll feel much better, along with Casey, I'm sure. *If* it is something serious, please, please take comfort in the fact that animals are so much more resiliant and adaptable than us humans are. Even a totally blind dog lives a happy, full life and doesn't let it bother it at all... it's harder work for us to learn to live with them losing senses than it is for them. My thoughts are with you and Casey IP: Logged |

Hi Maisey, Nik and all, I can't get her in until tomorrow morning. She is very busy today, and because Casey is o.k. in all other area's she can wait. I'm not dealing with this too well, I'm a middle aged woman with good common since,(I think) but I feel like a child at this moment. Crazy, Huh? I just love that darn dog sooooooooo much! Thanks for the support! will keep you posted. Susan IP: Logged |

How old is she? If it is a cataract, there may be some underlying mediecal condition that caused it to form so quickly, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the vet do a blood panel as well to rule those possibilities out. Also, there is a surgery that can be done for dogs with cataracts, lens replacement, where they take of the lens (the cataracts form on there) and put in a synthetic lens. From what I understand, new cataracts cannot grow on the "fake" lens. I don't know the success rates, etc of the surgery though, but it is an option. IP: Logged |

Hi Susan i replied to email sorry it was abit late been having pc trouble. Like i say it sounds like cataracts dont worry its nothing you have done dogs of any age can get them like i say most small breeds suffer from them and like most things there is noway of knowing wether they will or will not suffer from things like this. You did right to ring the vet and to make an appointment most people would have just left it and hoped it would clear on its own. Since it has just happened the vet can do an operation to removed it. Dont worry too much its something that can easily be corrected.. Please keep us posted of how she is doing.. mike IP: Logged |

How did the vets apt go??? Hopefully she's ok. Sassy, my mare turned up like that one day. Come to find out she was dehydrated, and begining to get a cateract....thats why it formed so quickly. She's got constant water access from a auto fill bucket, plus the tank. But when it gets cold, she will sometimes refuse to drink, even if the water is warmed for her.

I ended up being called into work today, and couldn't take her. I'm so mad!!! My husband was also at work, so I had to reschedule. She's o.k. in every other way though, so I try to focus on that. Will keep you posted. Susan IP: Logged |
