I found this somewhere and thought I would share it with you: The 10 Commandments of a Responsible Pet Owner 1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.

I particularly like No. 4. The whole thing was a really good insight into a dog's feelings. [This message has been edited by neek (edited 12-08-2003).] IP: Logged |

Number 10 made me cry--in a "good" way because we both held Jasiu in our arms as he went "away" two months ago. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, but it made him feel no fear. J IP: Logged |

My greatest regret ever is that I was not with my dog when she died this summer.

I read this last night but when I tried to reply I got so upset I thought I'd come back later. They're a lovely set of rules to live by and refer to once in a while. My first girl reached 13 without so much as a cold, then she was hit with cancer and went downhill over the time of a couple of months. It was soo hard to watch but I *tried* to keep my spirits up, just to keep hers up. I would goto bed every night and cry so she didn't know how hard I was finding it. Watching her pass away was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, 7 years later it still hurts so deep. I was with her every bit of the way and I hope I find the stength to do it again when the time comes with Floob. Thankfully that's gonna be a fair few years away yet tho IP: Logged |
