Hi, My neighbors threw a turkey carcus outside for thier dog to eat, a big "NO NO" anyway my casey and freebie dug and dug until they were able to get over there to get to it. I didn't know what they were doing, I was busy cleaning, Anyway, I went out to check on them, and found them next door, having a gay ole time, eating away. I wasn't able to get into their back yard, so i had to coax Casey out with one of her puppies, and Freebie followed. I was so mad! they could have choked on those tiny bones. Not to mention, thier own dog, I don't understand people sometimes!!! They have the sweetest Australian Sheperd, but he is forever running loose, Along with a few more dogs in this neighborhood. The pound has been called on several occasions, because thier are so many, not by me, but by someone. I would be sick with worry, if Casey or Freebie ran around like that. Just had to vent! Thanks! Thats terrible Susan...did they actually get to eat some of it? If so I would keep an eye on them for a while. My moms chi had troubles after getting into chicken bones, but not until the next day...and when it got worse on the third day my mom took him in because she thought he had gotten into rat poison. He was drooling ALOT, and he would throw up foam. The vet told her that his symptoms were more in line with a dog who had a bone stuck than that of poisoning and she remembered him getting into the chicken bones. He is fine now. Not trying to scare you...just watch them to make sure. I'm frustrated with my neighbors too! IP: Logged |

Oh I can totally empathize with you guys on the neighbor situation-- Cameron just came into the house tonight with a big old turkey bone in her mouth-- I know the neighboors just threw the scraps outside. Also, my husband watched as our neighbor across the street threw her old pumpkin from H-ween across the street and into the empty lot next to us, less than 5 ft from our property line. Needless to say, it has been a challenge trying to keep Cameron away from it. I wish people would be more considerate, especially when they know we have a dog that's part beagle...I guess I should never assume people will be considerate! IP: Logged |

Hi Gals, Yes I'm sure they ate some of it, they were eating away, when i found them. Thanks for the info! I will keep a close eye on the both of them. They seem fine right now, but like you said, you never know about later.... You know, my neighbors are nice people, but I was just soooooo mad!!! Had to vent.. IP: Logged |

That's funny how a lot of dog owners have issue's w/ their neighbors !?! I have to say "i do too", sometimes. Your right, sometimes it also makes me ridiculously mad, because their lack of "COMMON-SENSE"!!! Then again, some of these people most likely That's A-OK w/ me though !! Some of these people don't have a clue of whom they really are... LOL IP: Logged |

I'm sure the pumpkin is ok for Cameron health-wise- it's just the hassle of everytime I open the door to take her out she runs to the pumpkin, and I call her away and then she forgets about the pumpkin for a minute or two, then runs right back! It is just hard especially in the morning when I am in a hurry for work and trying to get her to do her duties and not sniff the pumpkin! We have her in obedience class, and she is pretty good about listening to us, but being 1/2 beagle I think the wonderful smell of a rotting pumpkin is just to tempting for her little nose! I think I will just suck it up and remove the pumpkin myself today just to make things easier! IP: Logged |

Hi, Yeah, that's what I was going to suggest...Throw away the pumpkin...It's old, and might be harmful for that reason....You know, now that I know my dogs are o.k., I just have to laugh, hehhehe I can still see them going after that thing like it was thier last meal on earth! And when they got caught, you should have seen the look on thier little faces....Have a great day! Susan IP: Logged |

That sucks. You should ask your neigbor nicley not to do that. I know my dogs will remember a spot that they find a bone. Sasha found a chicken bone one day, and from that day on she would look for it on our walks when we got to that area. Little bugger. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I understand how you're feeling. My neighbours (2 doors down) have a little Jack Russell and they just don't seem to think logically. We are in Canada here, where the weather can get quite cold, and they leave their little dog all day long and he keeps up this horrible, continuous bark. Some folks just don't realize that there are always consequences to their actions, and one day, your dog might pay with it's life because of human unthoughtfulness. Weather it's a turkey carcass or freezing cold temperatures, some people are just not meant to be dog owners. IP: Logged |

My neighbors across the street have this little Jack Russell who is always getting out of the yard. At first he didn't have tags or anything on and he would just wander around. I kept telling them or their next door neighbors that he was out, but he would just get right out again. Now he has a harness and I think tags, but he is still always getting out. He darts in and out of the street, one of these days he is going to get hit by a car. I keep hoping he will wander off and find a home where they will take better care of him. Those people make me mad b/c they are so irresponsible with him. IP: Logged |

I agree with all of you about neighbors, I have certainly had some complaints about mine, and I'm sure I must do something that irritates them as well. But what if you thought of the pumpkin as a training opportunity? It's not dangerous even if she ate it, it basically comes down to being an annoying distraction. Use it =) Set your dog up using the skills you are learning in your obedience classes. See if you can make ignoring that pumpkin less exciting than listening to you. It's a chance to practice.
