Hi all. With all the food posts, I don't htink I've ever heard this food mentioned. Has anyone had any experience with it?

I've been trying different foods on my 2 maltese/shih tzu/poodles mixes. Unfortunately, the premium foods tend to give them soft stools that get caught in their hair! I had a sample of Wysong and tried that yesterday. It seems to be much better. However... it has corn, wheat and soy in it, and I was trying to avoid those. I remember reading somewhere that corn is an ingredient that "firms up" the stool, so I tried it.

Any input will be appreciated.

I have heard of it, but in the past their web site has been a pain in the *ss to find anything on so I was never able to find the ingredients list to research the food. However, they must have heard me griping because I just tried again and was able to get the information below.

They offer this canine formula for dogs with allergies:
A rice and lamb meat-based for use in the nutritional management of adverse food reactions in dogs and cats. Contains no beef, poultry, beef by-products, dairy or wheat products.

Anergen™ Canine/Feline Dry Ingredients:

Lamb, Ground Brown Rice, Ground Oat Groats, Ground Flax Seeds, Dried Yeast, DL-Methionine, Taurine, Lecithin, Fish Oil, Coconut Oil, Plums, Dried Wheat Grass Powder, Dried Barley Grass Powder, Citric Acid, Natural Extractives of Sage, Natural Extractives of Rosemary, Dried Kelp, Garlic, Black Pepper, Artichoke, L-Carnitine, Dried Bacillus subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Entercococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus lactis Fermentation Product, Dried Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus oryzae Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus niger Fermentation Product, Ascorbic Acid, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Proteinate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement.

and for adult maintenance:

Maintenance™ Ingredients:

Chicken, Chicken Giblets, Ground Brown Rice, Ground Wheat, Ground Corn, Ground Oat Groats, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols as a source of vitamin E), Eggs, Plums, Dried Wheat Grass Powder, Dried Barley Grass Powder, Whey, Dried Yogurt, Lecithin, Citric Acid, Natural Extractives of Sage, Natural Extractives of Rosemary, Dried Kelp, Fish Oil, Salt, Garlic, Black Pepper, Artichoke, L-Carnitine, Dried Bacillus subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Entercococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus lactis Fermentation Product, Dried Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus oryzae Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus niger Fermentation Product, Ascorbic Acid, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Proteinate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement.

ANALYSIS:

Protein 24%, Fat 12%, Fiber 4.5%, Moisture 12%

I would not feed this food because it does have the corn in it, it's moisture level is a little higher than most though, it's 12% usually it's around 10%. A higher moisture level is something I was told was a good thing. I also would look for something with more protein from quality meats rather than grains. Every dog is different, you have to find what works for your dog.

They have other formulas as well... http://wysong.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=WOTTPWS&Category_Code=CD

If you look here for a thread called FOOD FOR THOUGHT, you will find much information on foods.

Here is a link where you can look up each ingredient and see what it is and why it's in the food by using the "ingredient wizard". It's very helpful when trying to understand foods. http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=home-tab
Look to the right side of the screen for the "ingredient wizard", they have several other wizards as well...but the ingredient wizard allows you to look at specific items. Like wth is a groat? LOL I have never seen that in an ingredient list before!

Thanks for the info Maisey! I have seen your "Food for Thought" thread and found it very informative, and I have also checked the Innova site many times to use their comparison tool. We have tried Innova, Chicken Soup for the Petlovers' Soul, and Wellness Lamb & Rice. Initially (when I didn't know better), they ate Science Diet. The only good thing about SD was the firmness of the stools. Like you, I'd rather not feed corn, but I need a food with some sort of firming agent in it. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for the quick response.

Well.....I would not suggest you switch to this food without really reading up on feeding raw. But I am now feeding Natures Variety - Prairie frozen raw food. It's so convenient and easy to feed, they love it, you don't have to worry about them eating all the fillers and crap they don't need or is harmful to them. By using this product I was able to avoid my worries with feeding raw food:contamination, whole raw bones and making sure the food was balanced nutritionally were all concerns I had. This food is packaged in small medallions for easy portion figuring, it's not messy and easy to control contamination issues. There is very little handling and they eat it in three minutes so it's not left out. The bones are finely ground into the food so I don't have to worry about choking , perforations or blockages. and all the nutrition they need is in it already, so i don't have to figure or mix or worry that I'm not getting them all they need. I have health and allergy issues with one dog and one cat and both are doing much better since I started feeding this. The poops are smaller, don't stink, firm, and they within a day or two turn white and chalky, the white chalky thing would have actually freaked me out except that I had read it was normal before I saw it. It makes cleaning it up out of the yard so much easier! I also have another cat and two larger dogs that are eating it, they love it as well. The larger dogs are only getting it three times a week...it's expensive to feed the bigger dog this food. Feeding the cats and the Poodle is affordable. I feed my larger dogs Canidae and they do very well on that. Firm poops and all!
Have you heard of a new food called Blue Buffalo? They are selling it at PetsMart and it's the only food they sell that I would consider. It was designed by a Holistic veterinarian and they have a different way of processing it. I have also posted on that, you could do a search.
I like the raw diet...and I probably won't switch back to kibble with the cats and Poodle ever. I would love to have my big dogs on it completely, but it's not affordable for me to do it right now.

Along with Pedigree, I also feed my dogs a balance of meats and veggies. Usually I find meat on sale or cheap and I'll get it and cook it for the dogs along with carrots and peas, and corn.

We also boil chicken with garlic for the dogs as well once a week.

They don't eat dog food naturally ya know. I know I wouldn't eat it...ewwww.....
