My 6 month old britany, Ranger, has gotten this HUGE bark! He sounds like he is some giant dog, and it echos throughout the house! He ought to be a good watchdog with that! What is funny, though, is that he is only about 2 ft. tall, but not quite, he is still a little shorter. If he gets as big as his mom, or even a little bigger, the bark will still be too big for him! Does anyone else have dogs whose barks don't sound quite the same as the size of the dog? Just curious!

Dooley is only 45.5 pounds and 22" at the withers. He has quite a large array of vocalizations he makes, but he didn't use to really bark. Then we did flyball with him...he learned to bark, but it was an insistent "LET ME PLAY< IT'S MY TURN!" bark....Now we have Witt, who has a very big bark and he bays as well which is different from a bark, Dooley now barks like Witt, big, loud and deep sounding. It doesn't really go with his body. Witt is tanky looking so it matches him...Dooley is slender and athletic looking, very lean and long, so it doesn't quite match. It has been interesting to watch Dooley discover his voice, he is very vocal and i have never had a dog that kind of changed it over time.

Yeah, Ranger sounds like Dooley, long and athletic looking, only he has gotten a little chunkier, only for us to discover he is COVERED in muscle! He works everything out when he runs around chasing cats, dragging on the leash, playing with his sister (who is really lean, the same size, and has the same bark!)fetch, and tugofwar too! We also have a beagle on our street that never learned how to bark like a beagle, it just started copying their other dog. It is now REALLY old, and it still doesn't bark like a beagle!

Hi, I have two poms. Both weighing under 6lbs. If you are outside my house sounds like two huge dogs. They dont have the yappy little bark either, its a booming bark. Then you walk in the door to two tiny babies, LOL. My husky on the other hand "talks" all the time and people mistake this from growling or barking at them. Its too funny. Gets a little annoying but I love her!
