Good morning. Remember how i figured Squirmy had kennel cough when we got him last monday from the breeder where he was kenneled? Well he stopped coughing by Thanksgiving morning so I figured it was all over. Then yesterday he started sounding weird, kind of like he was constantly clearing out his throat when he breathed. Well, this morning i went to get him out of his crate and every breath he takes sounds full of congestion. I have never had any experience with a sick dog before ever. It may sound hard to believe, but the st. bernards I had growing up were never ill that I can remember, and my great dane was a strong healthy dog who was never sick either. So I am frightened. Squirmy has been laying on the couch since he woke up and hasnt once tried to get up, much less go to his food bowl. Does this congestion sound like pneumonia? If he does have it, can vets treat it? We love this dog so much and he just looks so sick. The vet receptionish said this was their earliest appt, I wish I could bring him in right now. Please keep him in your thoughts. IP: Logged |

That's just awful Annie I know how hard it is to cope with them when they're ill, makes you sick with worry. At least you have him in the vets as soon as you could and I'm sure they'll be able to cure him somehow. It sounds like he's got comfy and warm on the couch and I guess eating's the last thing he wants to do right now, much like us when we're unwell. Have you tried taking some water to him? Like maybe on a saucer or just on your finger tips, he might welcome it if he's too ill to bother moving. I hope things go well and he's bouncing around again before you know it. I'm sure he'll be in all our thoughts IP: Logged |

Our pup had Kennel cough when we got her- we were given antiobiotics along with her to treat it. The first week she sounded just awful, but then it quickly improved. Antibiotics really do help, though be careful of the dosage because the ones that we gave Cameron for kennel cough were pretty rough on her little tummy I'm sure the vet will be able to prescribe something to help your little one out IP: Logged |
