I'm beginning to think these posts are not real, just a joke. The same person posted asking whether a dog would be afraid if it was hit at age 8 weeks, then a question was asked by the same person how to stop this 8 week old dog from wanting to eat all the time, then how hardheaded it was, then that she was giving it cardboard to eat instead of the door. If someone is this oblivious I can't really believe that's possible...I think the administrator of the site should look into whether this is a jokester just trying to get people riled up. It seems almost impossible to believe any dog owner would be that ignorant. I smell a prank...

*then that she was giving it cardboard to eat instead of the door.*

I do not understand what you meant in your post by saying that. I never read anything about cardboard?

Also, just my 2 cents here, but ignorance is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you feel questions are ignorant, doesnt make it so.

If someone has never owned a dog nor ever been around dogs, how are they to know what is normal, what is typical, what is expected and what is most efficient?

I have posted many a question on this sight and am so grateful for being educated by people who took their valuable time to help me. I would be very embarrassed to think people thought I was ignorant or a online troll for simply askings questions about my new puppy.

Further, you can privately email the moderators on this websight about your concerns (which I do not share) so that in the all liklihood that you are wrong, then further feelings can be spared. ann

Annie is right not everyone has grown up with dogs before and we arnt born with all the right answers.
After working in rescue I have seen a ton of people who didnt know the first thing about owning dogs.
Thats why we need to share what we do know and try to help educate. Otherwise there wouldnt be forums like this.

Randa -
It was actually me, not Lauren who said about the cardboard.
I didn't say I gave it him "to eat instead of the door" tho, merley as a deterant to get him off the door when he started to chew at it. He tears it up and throws it about, asapose to nawing away on wood. He doesn't eat it.

I'm also guilty of the cardboard feeding...

***Goo's box opening directions***

"First ya pull it over closer to ya"

"Then you make a window so you can monitor the contents"

"Then you pull the goodies out"

"Whaddya mean 'clean it up'"!?

Too cute, Goob! I love it! Perfect "directions". Your dog seems to have it down pat! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Randa,

Yes, the moderators did take note of these weird posts. The member in question can no longer post here. We've also deleted a few of he's/her's posts.

Hope we've seen the last of IT. Please report immediately to moderators when you notice anything similar crawling out of the wood work..

Cheers

Wow- looking back on the posts in question from that particular member that got everyone riled up, I have to believe they're fake. I mean, I can understand not knowing a lot about raising a new puppy- when my husband and I got ours we had no experience at all- but the posts in question were just ridiculous. I know I'm off topic and my post will probably be deleted, but I just wanted to say that even if the posts were fake, I think everyone's response to them was very beneficial in educating others on those sensitive issues! Just wanted to say that- sorry for being off topic

Heh. I never thought about them being fake. I'm so gullible!

Nala loves cardboard as well. We originally were going to not let her chew up boxes, so that she wouldn't chew up the wrong one by mistake, but I quickly gave up. It was just one more thing to keep her away from.

Winnie does the same thing!! She loves to eat the cardboard from the inside of the toilet paper roll!!! he goes nuts over the TP too..one morning i went into the bathroom and saw that she somehow got the cardboard OUT of the tp roll, and shredded it to pieces. the TP was still on the tp holder!!!!!

LOL Julia...next time you are on the throne, take a tp roll and place it just out the crack in the door, talk into it and watch how fast your dog comes running. Witt has a fit, he gets so excited. I sing into it and he just comes unglued. errr...now that you all know what I do in my bathroom...

Goo loves unwrapping things She started out on little cereal boxes and stuff, then graduated up to boxes like that, lol. It is messy, but keeps her occupied for an hour or so, I just tos in a few toys and/or some kibble to make it more fun, and let her have at it. She's also never chewed up anything that wasn't hers, and if I have to take the box from her for a while (she's not allowed to have them when I'm not home, even though she's always spat out the pieces of cardboard and paper), she'll even leave it alone on the floor until I give it back.

Maisey, I do that with paper towel rolls... Goo starts that indignant barking when I chase her through the house with it, playbowing and zooming
