Interested in any input on flagyl long term usage. My rescue greyhound...who had a perfect stomach after much dietary work when we first got her, for 3 years...now is in a continuing bout of loose stool that comes and goes as we try every combination of chicken and rice, then add different dog foods in very small amounts over weeks. she always seems to go back downhill again at a certain point. and it's back with the flagyl. the vet seems to think she may have to be on it for a while, but I read some side effects in people that seemed pretty bad and have to believe they could be there for dogs, too. she gets prozyme powder sprinkled on top for digestion, too. I'm beginning to think maybe it's the chicken...the boiled and canned...though the vet said that was the mildest thing to give her. She was on lamb for years before, wellness, but had lost interest in it just before my seeing worms in stool and I figured since she would be on chicken/rice anyway for a while, it was a good time to change her food. now I don't know what to think. could the flagyl just be masking her natural reaction against chicken and that's why she gets better on it. In which case, I don't want to mask her allergic reactions. any input appreciated. *** Edited by Admin [Off topic remarks] [This message has been edited by Auspetian (edited 11-30-2003).] IP: Logged |

if aynone has bowel/stomach problems with their dogs ask your vets about giving them acidophillus tablets. [a brand with about 10 billion cells in it, once a day] its not a cure all or anything but it helped my dog out SO much. i swear by this for myself and my dog lol! IP: Logged |

I take acidophillus pills myself. Since I have taken them I no longer feel sick in the stomach. I didn't know you could get them for dogs though, thats heaps good!! IP: Logged |
