I think they're great! Nice and snuggly for a cold dog. I have the opposite problem: I have two Huskies that are just LOVING the cold! I can't keep them inside now. They are just happy to go out in 27 degree cold to run around and play and take their naps! Classic snow dogs - They are absolutely in their element. During the summer, they spend their time inside with the air conditioning.

Hi, I have a husky and two poms. One of my poms is not growing her winter coat in too well so we got her a sweater and so the other wont be left out we got her a little shirt. Well they love them. They both get upset when you take them off. My husband thinks its the silliest thing but they keep both warm. Now my husky wears boots, b/c as in the other post she must be outside all the time when its cold, but her paws get cracked up in the snow. So all in all, I love doggie clothes and my girls seem too as well. By the way, how long did you find it took your dog to get used to boots. My girl is tolerating them but will wear them. Sometimes she walks like she is drunk. LOL.

All three of my boys have coats. Darby is the Poodle, he has a nice warm "ski jacket", Witt and Dooley both have wind breaker type rain coats by OuterHound, I bought them at an auction that benefitted a shelter. I was doing it mostly to tease my husband and to help the shelter out...but the boys do wear them when it's windy and wet and cold, I think they appreciate them. I will be getting horse type blankets for them from a company called BMB. They are a tack company for horses, but they also make some dog coats and they pertsonalize them with embroidery. They are very sharp and not "foo foo". You get to pick the fabric color and piping or trim color. They have a large selection of colors. They also sell leashes and collars with the embroidery on them either their names or a phone number...whatever you want. In fact they will personalize any product in their catalog and they have lots of stuff for people horses and dogs.
I am making Dooley some leather "skid boots" right now for flyball, they are like splint boots for horses. I was thinking I should make them each a pair of boots out of cordura or something..maybe neoprene, for when we go play at Mt. Hood in the snow.

Four of our dogs (2 APBTs, one dachshund, one Chi) have coats/sweaters, one (the Cocker, we just let her fur grow out some) does not. One of the APBTs has booties, one will be getting a pair. The other dogs either aren't out in the snow much, or are so short (the dachsie) that booties wouldn't help anyway. None of them seem to mind getting "dressed up", although it did take Goo a bit to get used to the booties on her feet. Last year I used baby socks to keep her feet from getting cold, but they needed to be switched often when they started to get damp.

Here's Goo after getting her socks on last winter...

And Annie the dachsie playing fetch with snow, with a sweater (actually, the sweater is not attractive at all, but it was long enough for that scrawny little body of hers, so I can't complain ) on

I would love to find a sweater or coat to put on Tootsie for this winter. Its just too cold for her to go outside but she demands to be let out with everyone else.
She is a very badly bred chi who only weighs about 3 1/2 pds and nothing fits. Either its too big and she cant manuever or its too short because she has a slightly longer body.
The only sites I have found that might have clothes to fit her are $50 and over and I would really like to find something around 20.
Does anyone know of any really good dog fashion sites? lol

If you don't mind her looking a bit goofy, buy a pair of warm socks, cut leg/head holes, and send her on out. I've done this with Annie during cold muddy times, when she needed exercise, and I didn't want to have to keep washing her coat.

You might also try this place: www.petedge.com
I've ordered a few things from them, and been very pleased, both by the prices and quality of the stuff, and they seem to have some pretty small sizes.

You could make her something pretty easily. I am horrible with a sewing machine, they infuriate me, but I manage ok. Just keep it simple. Polar Fleece can be bought for very little at fabric stores and if you look in the remenants you may get an even better deal. Velcro keeps things simple too. I like Goobs idea with the socks. I was picturing the kind of hunters socks they use for sock monkeys, lol...put a little trim on it and wowza!

Maisey-

The horse cataloge you mentioned, is this only for your area. Sounds like they have some nice stuff and I would love to see it.

Good morning!

Confession time. I grew up with St.Bernards as a child and so obviously doggie sweaters were not necessary for them and infact they probably prefered the colder weather. lol

When I was younger and even in my 20's I used to inwardly smirk at people who put doggie clothes on their dogs in the winter time. I used to feel it was over-the-top as a pet oweer. However, now that I own a tiny little Beagle puppy I have turned into one of those owners I used to shake my head at.lol

I worry about this puppy as much as I do my own son and daughter and will be going to walmart later on today to get a doggie sweater for Squirmy. ann

I will definately try the sock! I thought about making something for her but I am hopeless when it comes to crafts. I barely graduated cut and paste I talked my neice into trying to knit stuff for her this morning. She knitted socks and a tail warmer for her scooby doo doll and they looked pretty good! hehe Tootsie would love to have socks

LOL Mayday, poor scooby doo will be naked soon!
Annie, I too secretly smirk sometimes...I think some people get silly with it, BUT to each his own, and if the dog doesn't mind, and it makes the owner happy...why not? Perfect example of this...I was looking through a web site that sold collars for dogs, I saw some "jewels" for dogs, these were necklaces for dogs, they were huge jewels for your dog to wear and they were displayed on a Poodle of course. I laughed, thought it was just too much! Told my husband how I felt sorry for the dog. However looking further on the site I found some little pewter tags that were cool, they said stuff like 'Bonehead", "Feed Me", "Princess", "Spoiled"...stuff like that, after I ordered one for Dooley that said "Scratch My Butt!" on it, I realized that this was indeed doggie jewelry too, just with a sense of humor and a different style. So I guess I am just a silly or pathetic as everyone else. I AM the woman who dressed up my dogs at Halloween. Who knows maybe Witt will be wearing a pink Tu-Tu soon.

A while back my wife and I noticed that her pug (Hidey) was very bad to shead there was hair all over the house and our car. We went to the pet store and asked what we could do and they sold us some stuff to put in her food called happy jack oil or something like that and for a while it done good but I didnt like the idea of constanly feeding this stuff to her dog so we got Hidey afew little shirts to see if she would wear them and it turned out that she dont mind them at all plus it helps alot with keeping hair off of everything in the house so my opinion on dog cloths is nothing but good although now that I have my boxer puppy (Samson) its getting harder to keep the shirts on Hidey. LOL He grabs them and pulls Hidey around the kitchen. Pretty comicle.

Thank you
Samson

Oh Charllotte loves clothes and dressing up, Smokey on the other hand would just love to chew them up.

I think they are sooo cute, to a point.

Maisey, where did you find the "Scratch my butt" tag??? I need like six of them.... (tags that is, I already have the six butts to be scratched...) I think this is GREAT!
Well, I don't clothe my babies, they are soooo happy when it gets cooler outside, they would hate me if I made them be hot again. But then again, it never gets really cold around here...

Mushka in her Hippo SnowSuit (I made it).
She is part GreyHound/Whippet so she needs a bit of cover from the Michigan snow.
Plus she looks so cute!

OMG they all look so cute in their coats. Jake cant wait for the cooler weather so he is loving it now. Just this morning the house is 69 and he is panting because he is hot. Even though Wylie is short haired she isnt bothered too much by the cold. If she were to stay in it all the time with no playing she would get cold though and probably need a coat.

Dogangle...I'll have to look around, I have since cleaned out my favorites file and I don't remember the name of the company...word of warning though, Dooley lost that tag within two weeks, they were pewter and soft.

Last night I went to put Witt's coat on him for our walk at the Speedway...too small! He has gained some bulk, he's too beefy for it. I noticed it still fit in length, so now I am worried that if I order a coat from BMB it will be too small since they measure from the neck to tail set, but not across the chest. Maybe I can call and ask them for a chest measurement.
