Brutus is getting dehydrated, i force pedialite down him two times an hour, and i give him a little chicken and white rice every now and then too,(it is blended up with some water, i feed him through a syringe, he won't eat on his own, he ate a little on his own last night though) i also gave him some a/d, even though he hates it, it has a bunch of things he needs to be healthy. I am taking him to the vet again tommorrow, but i refuse to let them put him down unless there is no hope for him. I have hope. He ate a little but of pedigree soft food on his own last night, and i force feed him, and i give him water every 30 minutes. He has had 3 bloody stools in the past 3 days, he has thrown up 4 times in the past week and 5 days. If it is parvo, it should be breaking now shouldn't it? he has been sick for 5 days, please give me some advice! also, to help him get better, when we take him out, and he wants to walk back up the deck steps (there are only 4) i usually pick him up to help him keep his strength up, but should i let him walk up them instead to work his muscles? please post oh yea, is there anything more i can do to hydrate him?

Hi,

Your story caught my attention since just this morning, our 8 week old Maltepoo passed away at the vet hospital. We are very very sad and it made Thanksgiving awful. She too was not eating and was very dehydrated the 2nd day we had her. She was very perky yesterday when we transferred her to the overnight hospital, but took a turn for the worst this morning. We wish we kept her home with us and nursed her ourselves instead of incurring $1500 in med bills. The vet said she need 24 hour I.V. fluids to hydrate her until she got through it. We feel that transferring her and only getting to see her for a few minutes per day, may have, emotionally, taken a huge toll on her. She was so happy when she saw us, and then got depressed again. My sister said try Karo syrup. Put your finger in its mouth and force it to taste it. Once this happens, the puppy should want more. This will help with hydration and when better, switch to baby rice cereal. Her pomeranian had this problem and thats what her breeder told her to do and it worked. I just thought our vet could bring her back, but I was wrong. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Daphne, I am so sorry you are going through this. Brutus seems to have a strong will to live so I think there is hope. You seem to be doing all the right things and that is all you can do til the vet gets back tomorrow. Please let us know how the vet visit goes tomorrow. Good luck. I'm praying for the little guy!

How sad!! If he has got parvo then it should break within the next week or so. Don't force feed him anything but water every hour or so. If he is eating on his own then thats a sign that he is coming through it.

I would continue to carry him up the stairs as he will need all his strength to pull through this horrible disease!

I hope he continues to get well and I'll be pulling for him, Good luck.

PS get his Parvo shots as soon as possible when he gets better.
