Hey Everyone!
New Here and trying to figure all the forums out, they're great!

I have a 10 month old retriever puppy who I have a few questions about!

1. He has "a limp" he has had it from June until now. I have been told by a breeder that it is "Pano" I have no idea what that is short for, what it is, if he is in pain and if it will ever go away!!
He can walk, run, play do anything on it fine...but like any over protective dog mum I am curious!! It doesn't seem to slow him down it just doesn't look fun!

2. I'd LOVE to do agility with him, he has had basic obedience training...and we have gone beyond that at home..he is a very good boy. What we are concerned with is his size! At 10 months he is 27 1/2 inches at the shoulder, and weighs 90lbs. He is by no means over weight, has outgrown both parents and we don't want to hurt his joints! When would be an appropriate age to begin agility with him!?

3. He likes to puke A LOT! I shouldn't say he likes to..he just does. When he gets excited or is having an active moment or moments, he'll pause and puke. Gross, I know- it is mostly water, but still it's puke. Could it be his feed? I just don't think it would be fun to have to worry about puking (and have us clean it up) everytime he wants to play hard! Any ideas?!

4. Respect for everyone in the family. I did most of his training with him and it seems to be only my mom and I that can get him to come when asked the first time. He'll ignore my sister or step-dad until he gets out of whatever his nose is into. Any ideas on how to get him to respect them more? He has been clicker trained!

I think I am done for now...give you all something to think about

It sounds like your sister and step-dad will have to work with him a bit. They need to actually be involved in his training...have them practice teaching him the "come" command using the clicker.

I'm not sure about your questions 2 & 3 but Im sure another poster can give you some information.

Welcome to the board!

Panosteitits, my German Shepherd had this and at the time I had no understanding of what it was or what caused it. I was told it happened in larger breed dogs when they grew too fast. Thats all the explanation I got and at that time I didn't know how to go about finding out more.

I suggest you read everything you can get your hands on, I would have a vet diagnose it rather than depending on a breeder. Not that she isn't correct...just best to have it from a vet. I still don't know alot about it, but I think it has been established that high protein diets cause rapid growth, which can cause the pano. Puppy foods are much of the time very high in protein, in fact alot of kibbled diets are high in protein today. There is a FOOD FOR THOUGHT thread on this forum that you can get alot of information and links for researching food choices.
I would not start your pup in a sport until you have this resolved.
I don't have a clue about the "throwing up" a clear liquid, but it would concern me a bit.
