Ok, i can remember somebody on here posting about cleaning dogs teeth. Well I went out and bought my dog a toothbrush today and cleaner her teeth. She absolutely hated it, coughed and coughed for ages after doing it and she looked at me as if to say 'look what you have done to me mother' 'make it go away'....

Normally when i bath her or brush her i can leave the hose and brush on the ground and she wont go near them again i till she is dragged back for another bath/brush.

I walked out the back this morning and noticed little bits of chewed up toothbrush, and the tail end of it sticking out of a hole she had dug. Yes she dug the hole and yes she burried the brush......

I think i get the hint that she doesn't like having her teeth brushed but baths and brushing is ok cause the hose and brush hasn't been chewed.....

Any other suggestions...... Apart from putting her brush away, I bought another one already, but she'll hate me forever doing something to her that she hates.

That is the most PRECIOUS story! How cute!!!

I can't offer advice on the brushing of the teeth as I have owned dogs and cats throughout my life and have never brushed their teeth. I give them special teething bisquits etc, but, and this is just my opinion, but animals on Earth have survived for thousands of years without having their teeth brushed, LOL, and their life expecantcy is about 10-20 years to boot..... I think their teeth can survive them that long without being brushed. Still, I very much admire the owners who go to such lengths for their pets. It's terrific for them to do that.

I always have my pets have regular medical checkups, take vitamin supplements and 24/7 of mad love, lol, but I personally draw the line at brushing their teeth. LOL

Yes, your dog was definitely sending you a message for sure!

Happy Thanksgiving! Ann

Too funny! Maybe just brush her teeth with water only and just a little at a time until she gets used to it so it's not such an insult. They also have liver and chicken flavored toothpastes..although I couldn't bring myself to buy them ACKKK! I'll take dog breath over chicken or liver breath thank you very much!

Start small when trying to brush her teeth. Get her used to you putting your fingers in her mouth. Flavor some water with a very small amount of bouillion. Dip your finger in the water and then work your fingers along her teeth.
Once she is comfortable with that move to using a wash cloth. Same method. Once she accepts the wash cloth with the water start using the paste. Make sure it is flavored. My dogs go nutty over Chicken flavored CET. You can get that at the vets office.
Once she has gotten the hang of the paste on the wash cloth move to using the brush. By then she should be used to the concept of her teeth getting cleaned.
Make sure to give her lots of praise. You might even want to keep some treats handy so she associates this as a positive activity.

Maisey - I don't think i could give her the liver/chicken flavoured toothpaste either, I dont think i could stomach the smell. The smell of her breath will do me just fine aswell.

I'll give it another go, but if she doesn't stick her nose up at me then wooo hoooo, but if she does then I'll just stick to giving her bones and vitamens.

She was still cranky at me this morning, layin on the ground with these little puppy dog eyes looking up at me, like she was saying 'mum, you have hurt my feelings really badly'....

Poor little darling, she'll get over it....LOL.....I hope!!!
