My Nala is such a good girl except for her puppy problems, but there is one thing I just dont understand. She sometimes pee pees and poo's in our living room. I keep her in my room most of the day and when I get home she goes right outside. Though when I cook dinner or have guests over she comes with me to the living room and sometimes starts sniffing and squats. I yell at her and say "No No No, bad Dog" and put her right outside but I just dont get it? She goes outside 90% of the time and NEVER has gone in my room for long periods of time and over night. So why would she be doing this?

How old is Nala? Does she sleep in your room overnight? Dogs tend to use the bathroom outside of their sleeping area. Im guessing that she does'nt "go" in your room because you keep her in there most of the day so maybe she veiws this as her sleeping area.
Is she restricted from the living area most of the time? If so, maybe its unfamiliarness of that room that makes her think its okay to "go" there.

Hello. I have been thinking about your post for awhile now and think I may have a reason. COuld it be when you are cooking dinner or having guests that she misses your attention, that is, at the time, turned towards something other than herself? Maybe she is doing it because of that? Or maybe she is trying to get your attention? But then I think the latter reason gives more credit to a dog's mind than what is deserved, because I dont think they can really pschoanalyze a situation, ponder it, and then decide that that action will provoke you. Maybe I am wrong though. Wouldnt be the first time. Ann

I found this website tonight. Tell me what you think of it. It looks pretty interesting so far. I thought people on this board would be interested in it as well. Ann

She could very well be peeing to get your attention. My Nala will whine by the gate when I am cooking, and then if I ignore her she runs off to steal a couch pillow or get into some other mischief. The things she finds to get into are things she normally leaves alone. She is doing it to get my attention and make me come into the room with her, even if she then gets negative attention.

I would anticipate when your Nala is going to do this. Tether her to you in the kitchen when you are cooking and when you have guests over. Maybe give her a special bone or toy to chew on to keep her occupied during that time.
