While I agree with you about the spoiling, by that I meant letting the dog get away with behaviors that are disrespectful, I talk to my dog all the time, LOL you would all probably think I am nuts! My dog likes when I talk to him, I can see it in his body and face. It's a look of "all is right with the world". I can understand a dog snapping when it is in pain, injured or startled. I can even understand it snapping when it is defending itself. I think stating there is NO excuse for a dog snapping, is not completely true. In the case this woman described, yes...although there wasn't a great deal of explanation, but there are instances where a dog snapping is completely understandable. I can't stand it when a dog gets the heavy hand for snapping at a child that just spent twenty minutes torturing the dog. Drives me insane for a parent to expect a dog to put up with it.."a good dog would tolerate that". BAH!!! A good parent would teach their child how to be respectful and a good dog owner would protect his dog from such assaults. I agree that this lady needs to address this dogs behavior quickly, it did sound in her description like a additude issue. But I wouldn't put a blanket statement on all dogs who snap or lash out.
