My dogs nose is not wet hardly ever and barely moist at times. Does this mean she is sick?. Should I take her to the vet? Also I just got her a month ago from the Humane society and she was kinda skinny. I fed her Nutro puppy food and she ate it all at once when I went to feed her and now I give her Pedigree and she just picks at it. Should I switch back? What to do?!?! IP: Logged |

If you have not taken her to the vet since you got her, then yes you should go to the vet. Otherwise, I'm not sure the dry nose is cause for alarm. If you are unsure, though, it can't hurt to take her in or at least call the vet with your concerns. Nutro and Pedigree are both okay foods. My dog sometimes eats ravenously and sometimes she ignores her food. I think some dogs are just like that. However, it could be that she doesn't like the food. Is she a puppy? Not eating in a puppy can be a sign of worms. Pups need to be wormed and checked for worms several times. Adult dogs can get them as well, especially if she was a shelter dog as you say. Check out the Food For Thought thread for different food choices. And if you do decide to switch, do it slowly, mixing the old food and the new. And keep in mind that there is no one food right for every dog. Watch your dog, look at her coat, see her energy level, see how much stool she has, whether it is firm or soft, and how stinky it is - all of these things help you to assess your food choice.
