My Aussie's lips are pink in color, as is the roof of his mouth.

My new adopted puppy's lips are black, as is the roof of her mouth. She's appears to be a Husky/German Shepherd mix.

Do either Huskies or Shepherds, or both, usually have black mouths? I'm trying to nail down her dominant breed as much as possible.

Thanks,
Philip

My aussies lips are black as is the roof of her mouth. She is 7 months old and a black tri. What color is your aussie? My husky that I had for 16 years had black lips and a black mouth also.

My Aussie/Lab X has black lips but the inside of his mouth is pink and black spotted all over! I can't remember what Max my german Shepherd had, I know his lips were black. Charmed, do you mean your shepherd roof of the mouth and whole inside is black?

Jemin,

My 7-month-old Aussie boy is a red tri. His nose is pink as well. He's pretty flashy, I must say. His newly adopted stepsister isn't flashy at all, but I think she's going to be a great-looking dog.

Hi Phillip, I wanted to ask you if you notice that the reds have more skin problems? I want a red patchwork Catahoula puppy (at some point), but I have been reading on the Catahoula board that dogs with red coloring seem to have more issues with their skin. Do you find that to be true with yours?

Hi Maisey,

Actually, Luc hasn't had any issues at all (said with fingers crossed). As far as Aussies go, the only dogs with more problems than the average arethe products of merle-merle breeding, which, as you may know are often white, and born blind or deaf.

Yes I am aware of the issue of Merle/merle breeding, it's the same with Catahoulas. I have a head to toe blue merle male Aussie X. Witt is a real hard one to nail down color wise...I would say he is a chocolate leopard for lack of another decription at this point. I can't wait until I can take him to a Catahoula show to ask some breeders about his color.

pbendavid- do you have any pictures of you Aussie? It sounds like ours are about the same age, and I would love to see a picture.
I will try and post one of Jules, if I can remember how to do it!

Maisy my german shepherds roof of there mouths is black apart from there tongue which one of my bitches has a black spot on the underneath of her tongue have no idea why but she has..

I know they are all full pedigree dogs as i have all there papers including the generations of parents and grandparents and so on.

i even have there papers from there hip score and genetics tests and test fro any health problesm they could have had thankfully they are very healthy with no faults apart from mitzy she thinks she is a baby and likes to sleep on my bed which isnt very much room when she gets comfy hehehehe...

LOL Mike, I asked because thats what the string was about and when you commented I wasn't sure of your description. Just claryifying. and...quit whining and scoot over for Mitzy she just loves ya and wants to be close to you. Think of it this way....she doesn't mind your morning breath and accepts you just the way you are, how many other women in your life can you say that about?
