We have two westies, twin girls who are four years old now. They were neutered at a year old because they showed aggression to each other but not to people. The situation now is getting desperate, in the last two weeks thay have been fighting, resulting in serious bites to one of them. It is usually triggered by someone coming to the door when they both jump up and bark and tear around generally. It has been suggested that because they are so similar there is no top dog. I would welcome any comments on this problem.

There is ALWAYS a top dog when there are two or more dogs in the same house. Your dogs are trying to compete for the role of top dog and it sounds like they don't know which dog it is yet. As they are from the same litter (is that right) the competition is fiercer still. You have done the right thing by getting them fixed but their behavioral characteristics need to be addressed immediately! You might want to consider obedience training as the trainers can show you how to change their behavior when someone comes to visit. Do they have any basic training? E.G sitting, staying, and heeling. Obedience training can make a huge difference in treating your dogs' behavior. Good Luck and keep me posted.
