hi, i have an 11.5 week old shih tzu male with one undescended testicle. my vet said it could drop. or it couldn't. if it doesn't, it will have to be removed. anyone know likelihood of it dropping, or if there are ways to help it drop, massage, etc.?? IP: Logged |

I didn't think you could feel the testicles on a pup that young? Maybe it will drop by itself as he gets older. I know in bigger dogs you can't really see them until the are 6 months or older. IP: Logged |

hey there, I don't think that there's anything you could do. But, try looking into the cord that connects from the testicle. Maybe the cord is jsut all caught up and did'nt allow the testicle to drop all the way down. This is of-coarse a surgical procedure, & again i don't think you could just massage it down, I THINK...? Anyhow, b4 going ahead & removing it, look into that, possibly that testicles cord (i can't think of that cords name right now) did'nt grow long enough for the testicle to drop all the way down to the scrotum/SACK. Looking into this sooner than later will give you better chances in not having anything grow into deformity, because of somthing simply not allowing progress to happen in growth. Time for some X-Rays i'd say... it'll be worth it, if your planning on saving his 1,2's . But, if your gonna neuter him, i guess your concern would be more about cancer, regarding if the surgery should be done sooner than later... IP: Logged |

thank you for your advice. he is otherwise such a precious and beautiful boy. the only other fault found was a small umbilical hernia. if anything develops (pun intended) will let you know IP: Logged |
