We just adopted a stray puppy (7months old). Our neighbor took him in for the first 7 weeks, and she has another dog and 3 cats. Rosco (puppy's name) seems to miss his foster home because at our house he just sleeps! Granted, we don't have other animals for him to play with, but he doesn't show any interest in us either. More importantly, he started vomitting two days ago. The vet has him on a 24 hour fast, antibiotics, and another medication for vomitting. I've started giving him prescription dog food in small portions. Outdoors he comes alive. Jumps, runs, chases butterflies and bugs. But we work and can't take him out as often as he'd like. How should we care for our ailing puppy? Are his sleeping patterns normal (more than 5 hours in the day and all through the night)? Help please!!!

I think he is just getting used to his new home and he is also not feeling well. The sleep pattern is normal. He aso needs to get used to you. Wylie our stray, didn show any interest in us for months. and now she ust loves us and showers ust with attention. What did the vet say was the problemwith the vomiting

Even an adult dog spends a surprising amount of time sleeping. I think it's just what they do when they are bored.

I think your little guy will be okay. He's adjusting and has had a lot of changes in his little life. And some dogs take longer than others to form attachments, just like people.

Definitely watch the vomiting, though, and call your vet if you notice any changes. Or if you are just plain worried. I figure vets charge enough for me to pester them on the phone if I am worried about a pet.

Hi Ave and welcome to the board =)

I think he just needs some time to adjust, it's a hard thing to get used to a new home and different surroundings, especially if he doesn't feel well. Keep in mind he is growing, his body uses alot of energy to do that and if he is not eating well or holding it down this would make him lethargic. I would stay on top of that too...what did your vet say was the problem? Did the vet test him for anything? What did he tell you to do about it?

Roscoe is an adorable name btw.
