Jake has been getting real bad lately trying I think to establlish dominance. Wylie is our ALpha dog and he usually tries to mount her while they are playing and she wont having anything to with it, Also if I am sitting on the floor Jake tries to mount me. it has been getting worse, well alst night while we in bed, Wylie was on the bed and Midas (the cat came over) wanting to snuggle her, she jumped off the decided to use her rarly used dog bed. She was getting it all nice and comfy when all H**l broke loose. Jake was trying to mount her. I think she would have drawn blood if I hadnt stopped her. I know it was because here she is in her total comfort zone and she is blindsided in the dark. I bet she wont sleep in that bed again. I just dont what has gotten into Jake Honeybear IP: Logged |

How old is Jake? Isn't he an adolescent, or am I way off base? I know some behaviors only start as a dog matures, even if the dog has been altered. They begin asserting dominance and showing aggression if they are so inclined. (Not saying Jake is becoming aggressive.) My sister's dogs got into a HUGE fight a few weeks ago. She was terrified her oldest baby was going to be killed, but he was not harmed at all. It sounded very scary. She didn't wade in to stop it - I don't know what I would have done.

Jake is almost 7 year old, so I dont know why all of the sudden he is doing it more. He has no aggression whatsoever but this mounting thing with Wylie, she is the one who is going to snap and hurt Jake because she hates it. Honeybear IP: Logged |

Hrmm I never had more than one dog in a house so I don't really have any advice.  Maybe try the nothing in life is free thing to try to reestablish dominance? Make him sit before he gets his food, walk after you up the stairs.....IP: Logged |

Hi! I read an article years ago about having more than one inside dog. It was very interesting, said that the dog you had first, should be the one that get's everything first. Eating, playing whatever. I'ts important to show your first dog that no other will ever take it's place. It works with my two dogs. Freebie knows that he has to wait for Casey in whatever it is. He doesn't mind at all. He knows that's just the way it is. This may have nothing to do with what you're going through, but maybe it will help a little. I know that they have rolls such as the alpha dog and so on.... But perhaps it's jelousy.... Don't know....Sincerely, Susan IP: Logged |
