Has anyone ever heard of or tried break away collars for dogs? I bought one for my Aussie x last year and I think they are great. She had a few incidents with getting caught on the rug by her collar and just to be safe I got her a collar which would break away if this ocurred again....which it has'nt. My mother recently bought one after concerns of leaving a collar on her Poodle while he was in his crate....she wanted him to have a collar on just in case he escaped the yard..which he has on several ocassions but was worried about him getting caught and choking himself while in the crate.
Anyway, I think they are a wonderful invention and wondered if anyone else has tried them?

I haven't personally tried them, but I do know that my friend uses one with her huskyX. She was concerned when she noticed that her dog kept rubbing/walking against the chain link fence to scratch his shoulders and the sides of his body when he was blowing coat.

I would be interested in something like this. What exactly are they?? I took the collars off both my Huskies a few days ago. They were playfighting and Bailey's mouth got caught in Brute's collar. I was in a panic trying to free her and Brute kept moving around in confusion. Luckily she freed herself and wasn't hurt. I want to keep identification on my dogs in case they get out but I am afraid something like that would happen again. Any suggestions? Would a breakaway collar be the answer?

Kerriesue: The collars snap together and have a ring on each side....when the collars are pulled on they unsnap unless the rings are held together...this way they can still be used with a leash without unsnaping. The only problem would be if someone grabbed your dog by the collar (without holding the rings together) and the dog pulled it would unsnap.
