I'm really scared. My puppy--well, a dog...we adopted her from the Adoption Centre three years ago. The vets there told us they think she's about two years old, and we had her for three years, which meant she was five. When a small bump appearedo on her stomach, we ignroed it because we thought it was nothing. Then it got bigger...and just two days ago it was the size of about three eggs put together. She's such a little dog and has a huge tumor on her stomach--it makes me cry. But today, it suddenly grew smaller. It's about the size of a golf ball. And whenever I felt it, it felt hard--but now it feels...watery-balloony. Does anyone know what's wrong?

P.S.
The sugery costs over 500 dollars. We are already having difficulty with money to keep our house...let alone pay that much for a surgery...

I understand your frustations over the money issues. My puppy I have only had for less than three weeks and it is not eating. She is very thin and I think that she is going to die. I have no suggestion on how to come up with the money, but sometimes vets will let you get the surgery and put you on a payment plan to pay for it. You just have to look around for a vet that will make that type of arangement. Also, you might want to look into doggy insurance for future situations like this one. It will prevent you from paying alot of out of pocket cost in the future.

And I just want to know this:

Her tumor was huge, now it's small. What does it mean?

Do you know for a fact that it was a tumor. It could be a cyst. If it was a cyst then the simple answer is that it popped. Did the dog exsperience any pain during this revolation. If it is a tumor then it could have shifted in the stomach, just causing it to look smaller. It is not likely that a tumor will shrink on its own.

Well...the vet said it was a tumor. We also thoguht she was five, but the vet said because of her eyes looking weary, she's over 10 years old. But then again I did pet her around the eyes a lot...why else would a tumor start to shrink?

That doesn't sound like a tumor, it sounds like an absess. My cat had one and it popped, I cleaned it best i could with soap and water, and she was fine. If it's smaller and "watery" puss...that means it's an infection. Maybe you can afford some antibiotics, they shouldn't be to expensive.
Don't get too upset, I'm pretty sure your dog will be o.k. Try the S.P.C.A. they are usualy cheaper than a regular vet. Let me know, k? Good luck! Sincerely, Susan

I didn't realize you took it to a vet, before I commented...Sorry...I would still get another opinion, it sure sounds like an absess to me.......Susan

I do agree with the other person, I think that it is an absess, not a tumor. Tumors do not shrink and should not feel mushy, they would be firm and stay the same size. I also think that you should get a second opinion. Let us know how it goes.

my girlfriends dog had a hemotoma on his left ear and the vet only charged us 40 dollars to have a stint put in it so maybe the surgery will not be as bad as you think. more than likely though i too would say its an absess. hope everything turns out ok.

Hi,
Just so you are aware, there are some tumors which do shrink and expand- if your vet said it was a tumor it probably was. Do your best to find a vet to help you with a payment plan.

There are companies that offer doggy insurance, but just like people insurance they don't cover pre-existing conditions.

I believe there credit card that you can use at a vets office is called care credit. You can pay it off the first month free of any other charges. If not fully paid then they add the finance charge monthly. ask your vet. We actually got ours at the dentists office. But called and it was usable at the vets. If it were an absess you could try the warm compresses to help bring the infection up and out.

I was just wanting to know how your dog is doing. I hope that you are having better luck than we did. Unfortunately my puppy passed away last night. You should take the dog back to the vet for another opinion and figure something out. It only takes one day for things to go from bad to worse. I do not want you to suffer the same loss that I did. Please keep us updating on your dogs condition.
