HI

Have three year old pug. He's a little overweight right now and has black spots on
his under belly and also hives. Can anyone help. Dr. put him on prednisone for ten days
and fish oil for 60 days once a day. When he was on prednisone it looked like it was clearing when we removed it seems to have gotten worse and he was a non stop eating machine.

Please help, Dona

Dona, the prednizone just makes the dog feel good but does not treat the underlying problem. That is probably why the symptons occcur as soon as the dog is off prednizone. Make sure it is not a flea problem, it could also be a food allergy, what are you feeding it? Food allergies are very common in dogs and cause these types of skin problems. Please do a search on "Food for thought" here there is a welath of information on food and allergies and recommendations.

My dog was also on predinsone for a shot time. It was amazing to see how starved she thought she was. Your vet told you not to cave into their cravings right. Stick to normal diet. As honey said. Many skin issues have to do with food allergys. Look into a high quality kibble. Also the "Food for Thought" Is a thread posted by a few people here on many different issues with sites to read up on the many different things that can occur with your pet.
