Yesterday, the day before halloween my dog was hit by a car when both my dogs got loose through the garage, bj was killed instantly after his back was snapped, julie though was right behind bj and managed to survive the ordeal, but is emotionally scar'd, she's no longer active and just lays down in the corner and sleeps, when shes not sleeping she whimpers by the door. Everytime i see her she looks so sad and doesn't seem to want to do anything, can anyone help me with my problem. Both dogs are beagles. BJ was a little over 3 while julie is 7. Thank you IP: Logged |

She's probably upset from the trauma and losing her friend. Give her a lot of attention and some time to heal. Sorry to hear about your doggy. IP: Logged |

Give her some time - it has only been a day! Watch her carefully. Make sure you give her lots of extra love and attention. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

It could take up to a month or longer for her to get over it. My neighbors dog mourned for a few months, but as soon as they got a new dog he was like new.. Give him lots of love. Try not to say the deceased dogs name, it may upset her. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. We lost a dog this year and our other dogs were definitely affected by this. The first few nights, they hardly slept in the bedroom. They were constantly going in and out, searching for her. The only male dog we have never did pay attention to her much, but he was the one affected most. When we brought in a new puppy, our male dog was so protective of her. If she yelps due to horsing around too much with the other female, he is surely there to investigate and tries to prevent any harm to the little one. Sometimes you can catch him being affectionate with her but when he sees that you are watching, he pulls away and acts like he was not doing anything other than investigating what is going on. It is so cute to watch them do their little acts like that, that it makes you wonder how some people could be mean to such adoring animals. I am not saying that you go out and get you another dog/puppy. Just spend a lot of time with her, take her for walks, do something that is not normally done to kind of distract her, maybe go for rides if you don't do that much. Help her move on with her life, too much sadness is not healthy for a dog, so YOU need to cheer up to, she can sense your feelings. Buy her a new toy and play it with her. Maybe later on, you can go together and find someone who will be great to play with Julie and of course you, one that you know BJ will approve. No one nor nothing can replace BJ, but that does not mean Julie and you shouldn't find that great energetic bundle of fur to keep you entertained ;-) when the right time comes. IP: Logged |
