hmmmm, all three of mine eat it too and Witt loves it. In fact, I have tossed my dogs a whole pear or apple in the summer, they lay in the yard and naw on it and it keeps them busy. Hi, my dogs eat apples including the core and they have had no reaction to them. They have also eaten broccoli with no ill effects. One of my dogs loves coffee she will easily drink anyones cuppa that is put down and wont think twice heheheheh.. As for Patato peels if these are boiled they can be given to a dog that is under weight as this helps them gain weight i used this method for one of my rescue dogs. So i think it must just be certain types of dogs that this happens to.. Just my opinion mike IP: Logged |

It's interesting that you brought this up honeybear. My family was just here and we were discussing how apple seeds contain arsenic. In fact my aunt was teasing about feeding her horses more apples. I believe that, and this may not be for all of those, that it is just dangerous in large amounts. Notice the heading for the column was POTENTIAL dangers. My mother in law has always fed her dog grapes for a good 10 years until recently she heard they were bad. I think you should take it with a grain of salt and just be careful about how much you feed of these things in the future. IP: Logged |

I have also fed grapes to my dogs for years. I asked my vet about it when recently it came out that they were bad. He said that many dogs have eaten grapes and not had a reaction, but that some do and when they do it isn't slight, it's devastating. He said amount plays a role and the individual dog, but he made the point that you have no way of knowing which dog will react to them, by the time you do, it's often too late. He said he just thinks it's not a risk he would want to take with his dog. I quit feeding them to mine because I don't want to find out. I also think that sometimes the amount fed decides how obvious a reaction will be, as with the apple cores, I wonder if feeding them occasionally over a long period of time can cause a build up or slow damage to organs. You know how the story goes about a person slipping arcenic into someones food daily over a long period...killing them slowly. Maybe the amount of water in an apple dilutes the arcenic? I don't know but it sure makes me think. IP: Logged |

My dog eats broccoli almost on a daily basis. nothing bothersome about it. Perfect bowel movements. She loves all veggies and fruit. I think that maybe there is a small percentage of dogs that don't do well with these foods, but they can't just say its bad for all. My poodle is on arthritis meds and has a blood test every so often and it alway turns up right where it should be. So, I'm not worried,oops time to go give my dog so broccoli with kibble. Gee, I should have read this thread earlier! My husband left an apple out on the deck by mistake and of course it was the first thing Nala saw when I let her out after work. She picked it up and was running around the yard with it jammed in her mouth. I was going to let her eat it, but I was worried she would eat the core with all the seeds and I know I had heard they are poisonous. You have no idea how hard it was to get that apple from her! Thank God the neighbors didn't video tape it.

My sister is real up on these matters as she has a red cockerspaniel. But guess what she doesn't have children so she feeds him everything she eats plus science diet. Oliver is a tank. She just heard how grapes can kill a dog & warned me. The chemicals are strong that they spray on grapes & or brocolli. Grapes come from other countries that have lesser strict chemical laws. So I would not feed them to Mattie. However, American grown veggies & fruit I figure I just wash them in liquid castile soup from the health food store. IP: Logged |
