I was given a beautiful Harlequin Great Dane bitch. I was told that she was pure-bred, but the person that I got her from did not have papers on her. Is there any way to get papers on her? I know nothing about her family, not even her actual age. Can someone help? IP: Logged |

No, the breeder or original owners has to register the puppies, if this was done then there should be some information on her but without some form of identification like a tatoo or microchip then there is no way of knowing. Check her underside rear or ear for a tattoo and have your vet scan her to see if she is chipped Can you ask the person you got her from to contact the breeder or give you the breeders name? Or if the person knows the breeders kennel name or part of her registered name that will help too. Other than knowing her age Is there a reason you want her papers? Do you know if she is she spayed? You should get your vet to check so you're not surprised with an unexpected heat cycle. IP: Logged |

If you want to show her or something and can't find anything through the avenues suggested above, you can get a limited registration with the AKC by submitting a form and photos of the dog (and money, I'm sure). Limited resgistration lets you participate in just about anything except conformation.

I was given a 3yr old Harlequin Dane by my buddy who just transferred to Italy and he is the best and most graceful dog I have ever had. Which is surprising due to his enormous size. IP: Logged |
