THe wet bowels are going to be normal until your pup adjusts to the new food. As to why the pup won't eat dry food, well how old is the pup? If you just got the pup then maybe the breeder was feeding the litter soft foods. Talk to the breeder to find out what the pup was being fed. If you have had the pup for a little while just be patient, maybe the pup doesn't like the brand of food you purchased or finds it to hard to chew. Are the pieces small enough? Does the dog get enough water? Some dogs won't eat dry food because they aren't getting enough fluids in a day, but will eat canned food. Why? I'm not exactly sure but I have seen it happen. But the good news is that the lose stools will pass in a little while as the pup adjusts to the change of diet. IP: Logged |

You didn't say how old the pup is or what type of food you have been feeding, but if it was on dry food and then you added wet food to the dry, it could simply be that the pup prefers the wet, kinda like offering chocolate cake to your child with toast. Adding or switching foods will often cause loose stools until they get adjusted to the new food. Why are you mixing the wet food in? IP: Logged |

hi, thanks for the info so far. my golden is 9 weeks old and have had it for about a week. i got the same dry food that the store was feeding them but she wasn't eating. so i mixed it up with a little canned food and she's eating more. but it's been making her stools wetter than when i had her the first few days. as long as it's normal, i'll heave a sigh of relief. i bought science diet for large breed pups and the pellets are a little huge, i'm not sure if that's the prob IP: Logged |
