Hello Everybody, i hope everyone is doing well. I have a question regarding allergies...

I have a Chinese Shar Pei that just turned 11 months the other day, & he has had problems w/ allergies.
I'd say for the past month i've been trying to monitor, & understand his allergic reaction. His type of reaction comes from his nostrills/nose, where 'clear fluid' runs out, & sometimes makes him sneeze. He occasionaly pushes-out a thrust of air through his nose to clear up his nostrills when this clear-fluid cloggs it up a little. I also notice when he gets this problem, he also has 'clear fluid' that runs out from his eyes, making his eye area all bugery/nasty. He still can see, & it does'nt seem to bother him too much. It bothers me more than him. It basically runs down his rinkles from his eyes down towards his cheeks.
I've noticed that these allergic signs always (for the most part) show up late-night, or/& in the morning hours untill i'd say noon-time.
By the morning time when i greet my buddies "good morning" i pretty much always notice the gunk of fluid that must have been coming out of his eyes throughout the night & morning hours.
I've been trying to narrow-down what this could be by reading numerous information on allergies, but none so far explains why it comes-on at bed-time & so-on.
What could the allergin(s) be?
Why does it always come-on before he goes to bed, & pretty much continues, or comes back durring the morning to early after noon hours?

This is'nt really a BAD situation here, but i know it's an allergy, and nobody likes allergies. Just hoping for some understanding of how to control, or even better cure it.

Again, ALL your help is GREATLY appreciated .
THANKS!

Do you think it could be something he is sleeping on. They say cleansers for the floors can be irritating. My poodle will get a runny nose at places like the dog parks. Maybe she is allergic to all the other dogs. I don't know but I have taken her to three different ones and each time it happens. I suppose it could be a reaction to some pollen or something like that. Poodles tend to get goopy eyes. Hers were worse before Innova. I don't know of anything else to add. I'm in L.A. too. God it was hot today wasn't it.

hey Puttin510!

You know what..? I was just saying that too myself when i got home, & went in the backyard as usual to greet my buddies. I was like "wow, it's pretty hot right know, & it feels like a hot summer night." But not quite toasty & nice, just hot & muggy/heavy feeling. I was out all day, & i did'nt quite notice the heat untill a little earlier.

You know, i can't quite narrow down what exactly it is thats causing my Pei having allergies. All i know is that he get's it around late-night. Right now it's 7:34pm, around midnight he'll start getting his runny-nose thing, & if it get's really bad (not meaning like BAD as in asap to the hospitol or anything) just you know, worse, he'll get watery eyes too... Maybe i should'nt feed him tonight, and see if it's in his food. If i don't feed him, & he does'nt get the runny nose, than for sure it's his food. Which i'm thinking it's the Chicken. I hope not. Chicken is in almost all the good foods. I'll have to dod a fish, duck, lamb type thing for him. It should'nt be a problem. Who knows, it's really probably something else. I have to make a move to start narrowing things down now. Hmmm....

Maybe there is something here that can help you narrow it down.

GOOD BOYS, it sounds like it could be either an inhalent allergy or a food allergy. everything I have read on food allergies though, then tend to manifest themselves in the skin. Inhalents are usually caused by airborne allergies. I have a cat that has the same problem - he was tested and he allergic to a lot of weeds. I also took him to a holistic vet that said even though he has inhalent allergies, the food he was on brought down his immune system, so He was put on a special diet. The vet said it would take months to bring his immune system up As you know I am having skin problems with my lab and it could be the chicken.

Honeybear:

WOW, i've never heard or read of certain foods can bring a cat's immune-system down. I'm thinking it could possibly affect dogs too. Interesting... What were the ingredients that the holistic vet mention are doing this? What was the special diet that he/she put your cat on (the main ingredients)?

Maisey:

First off, WOW, you've really done A LOT supplying us all w/ informative links on nutrition, along w/ NERN. I hav'nt checked them all out yet, their all interesting i'm sure. The 1st 2 that you posted helped me out a whole bunch (WDJ site, & Innova's site) in selecting & understanding ingredients. The rest i've never even new they were out there! THANKS to you both.

I'm glad to see this post as I was getting a little concerned about Max. Every morning he wakes up sneezing and rubs his whole head on the rug or with his paws. But after he has woken up for a few minutes everything seems to be fine. He does have some clear goopy stuff by his eyes every morning. Could this be allergies?

Goodboys, The vet said it is the commercial food your pets eat - both Cats and Dogs.; And as your know the wealth of info here and advice of what to feed and not to feed your dog. As for the cat ingredients I will get that for you, Is this for your cat? HE was on Flint River but the vet had problems getting it so He gave me a sample last week something different not sure what it was.

Goodboy, I'm wondering. Do you have your pei sleep by an open window. Maybe there is a night blooming plant that is blowing its pollen your way.

hey there... yes you .

NewLabOwner:
The Yankee's lost today... Yay! J/K, i don't care too much for baseball.
Anyhow, i remember reading that when a dog rubbs it's eyes/face/mouth w/ it's paws, that it could possibly be a food allergy.
I'd say look into that. What your feeding your dog, & how he does on it. Monitor him.

hey Puttin510,

He sleeps indoors & outdoors. I'd say it's like 50/50 of the time. I hav'nt noticed any distinguishable (sp?) signs of either times.

I think the reason why he has these symptoms is because of his battle w/ Folliculitis. It's been a R E A L dDrRaAgG....

Can anyone give personal-tips on treatment for this nasty problem..?

Thanks

Goodboys..LOL! I'm not really a baseball fan either but would actually rather see those Marlins win the World Series instead of those Yankees all the time =)

I was feeding Science Diet.. didn't notice the itching, then switched to Nutro Max.. noticed the itching and now have switched to Innova.. still see itching =(. I will keep an eye on it over the weekend and get him into the vet next week. I wanted to test and see if it could maybe be the peanut butter we put in his kong.

Thanks!

NewLabOwnr:

What kinda test are you going to have on your Lab? Will it be a skin test, a blood sample-test, skin biopsy, skin culture, skin scrape? I'd like to know if it's OK with you. I'm intersted because i'm very close to having one of these tests done possibly for both of my buddies. I'll possibly go w/ the blood test 1st, for my Pei's situation. I curious on what test you choose, & what it tests for, AND-lol, it's cost/price... Thanks Again .
