Just a quick question for other pup parents. I know that when the puppy is very youg, he she be given numerous potty breaks during the day and evening. How often should I take my 5-mnth old peeka poo out. I am still taking him out every hour or so like when he was 7weeks and he goes (pees) every time. Should I wait longer between breaks to teach him to hold it or what?

yes, i think u should start waiting longer. WE did that with our britney, and he now is 4 1/2 months old and potty trained, but then again, his sister who lives in a bigger house still isn't potty trained. He may just depend on whether or not they can find the door and you fast enough. Yes, definately try to make him hold it, unless this causes more accidents, then go back to every hour.

The rule of thumb is that he can hold it one hour for as many months as he's old + 1. For your pup, that'd be 6 hours! My shih tzu/poodle puppy is almost 6 months old and we go out about 4-5 times a day or whenever she "asks". If you haven't already, you might try crate training to teach him bladder control.

Hope this helps!

I would definetely recommend waiting longer between potty breaks, your pup should be able to hold it for at least 5 hours. I wouldn't recommend immediately trying to get him to hold for 5 hours though, work him up to it, that way he gets used to the idea over time. My pup just turned 5 months, and he can make it overnight, and hold it during the day up to 5 hours. If you don't start soon you might have problems later because he might just get spoiled to going out that often, and one day you might be running late and find an "accident" when you get home.
