hi, how well do dogs see in the dark? the reason i'm asking is coz i'm at my wits end in trying to housebreak my golden and get her to do her business in one spot. she's all right most times in the day and goes on the papers i set down for her. but when i get up in the morning, i'll find big and small businesses all over the kitchen (where i've confined her to) does anyone have the same problem or a solution to this doozy? thanks IP: Logged |

Try confining her to a crate at night for a while. Hopefully this will teach her to hold it during the night. After a month or so, then try to let her have free roam of the kitchen again, if she is doing well during the day. How old is she?

she's about 9 weeks old. and during the day, she goes to the corner to pee sometimes and everywhere else on others. and she definately doesn't know that she has to do the big one on the paper as well. i'm at a loss here IP: Logged |

9 weeks old is very young! Be patient, she will get it. Don't expect too much at this point. Be consistent, Possitive, persistent. Use a kennel to crate train her, it will help with the potty training and keep her safe when you aren't there or sleeping. There are some really good posts about potty training in some of the threads here...sift through them for the basics of potty training. If you use the crate, you shouldn't have to use paper. I personally don't like using the paper, I think it takes longer to get them trained. I am home most of the time with my dogs though so it's easy for me to put them out every 30 minutes, after eating, drinking, sleeping and playing. It goes so much faster and is much easier for them to get the concept when you get them out there to go potty before they start to use the house. Of course not everyone can be home as much as I am which makes it a bit tougher. Just keep in mind that 9 weeks old is really young. IP: Logged |
