My Lab cross loves swimming in water, loves drinking it, loves playing in it. If we take her down to the river, she'll dive in herself, but when it comes to baths she'll hide under the house.....LOL....pretty wierd. Is it because she knows that she is going to get clean and hates it? Anybody else's dog done this or similar?

My Aussie X loves running and splashing in the water at the beach, at the park and even in puddles but also hates bath time.

yeah my dog is the same way. He's a Lab/Cocker mix and we thought that he might not like water when we first got him because he hated the bath. The first time we took him to the beach he didn't really like it, but that was probably because he never saw waves before and was a bit spooked.

We took him to a place that had a nice little creek and he didn't hesitate to jump right in . . . now he loves spashing at the beach, but still hates baths. I guess in his mind they are not at all related.

It's not uncommon for a dog to like swimming (or standing in puddles, or wading, or anything like that), and dislike baths. Goo loves to wade around on our boat ramp in the summer, all the way up past her belly (she doesn't like to swim though, go figure), but doesn't like baths at all. One of the others swims, and doesn't mind baths (she's used to them now though, has to be rinsed off after every time she swims), but hates walking in wet grass. Another doesn't mind either swimming OR baths. One doesn't like swimming (or wading), but doesn't mind baths too much. Yet another won't go near the water (or mud puddles), and doesn't like baths either. It's just one of those little quirks that depends on the individual dog.

Just for fun, here's a couple pics of Goo that show what I mean about wading and baths...

Yes, she was barking at the water

If looks could kill (pardon the grunge on the shower wall, it needed cleaned)...

We can not keep Jake our lab out of the pool, he dives right in any chance he gets - but he hates baths!
