Hello. I just found this site and think it is great. I have a question I would like to ask anyone who has an older dog. I have a 5 year old male golden retriever, named Jordan, who will be six in January. Even though he is amost a senior dog, he is still very active and does everything he did as a puppy. He is still very smart, loves to play with me and other dogs, and is still sweet. He still looks the way he did when he first became "fully grown", about 2 I guess. Just one difference, in the past couple of months, his testicles have started to become "saggy". There aren't any lumps or anything so, I am guessing that it is just from getting older. Since this is my first dog that lived to this age, I am not quite sure. So my question would be, "Is sagging testicles normal for an intact male dog that is starting to age a bit? He seems perfectly healthy and there is no change in his behavior. It is still a few months until his annual checkup, and I don't want to take him in or call the busy Doc, to ask him about "saggy testicles". :O So I was wondering if anyone with a knowledge of older, "intact", male dogs could answer my question. lol.. I am sure yours will sag too when you get old.. I know this sounds really bad and all but feel them to see if there are any lumps or growths. It is not a fun thing (or at least I hope you don't think so..lol) however it is something everyone should do once in a while to feel for any growths. Also if he is very sensitive to touch, don't pinch them or anything but light squeezes to see if they are firm and if he squeaks. Don't squeeze hard.. I am sure that you understand that much being a male and all.. lol. Anyway. As emmbarrassing as it may seem, you should do it. (If you think you are embarrassed think of how I feel for telling you to do it) Angie IP: Logged |

If I was a male, I don't think I would have asked that question lol. But it is ok, I am not offended. I did check him and there were no lumps are growths. And I didn't enjoy it, but I don't think he minded all that much. lol IP: Logged |

Hi, Some intact male dogs do sag a little while others don't, Aslong as there is no lumps or anything out of the ordinary then he is fine. If your at all concerned about him give your vet a call and see what he suggests. Have you thought about having him nuetered... Keep us posted of any changes Mike IP: Logged |

Ohhh.. Don't worry.. everyone thinks that I am a guy just because I have a trashy mouth and kind of rough on the edges.. very tom boyish growing up.. still to the day I am more tough and into guy things than my dad.. My fiancee loves me to peices because I hunt, fish and do all the outdoorsy things.. lol. Not a guy though.. BUT--- IT WOULD BE SUCH AN EASY LIFE IF I WERE!!!!!!!! Angie (Is that really a guy name???) IP: Logged |
