does anyone have an alternative to the shots for a dog with addisons? the price is terrible and to have to choose between putting my dog down and paying 150 a month for a shot is not a decision that I really want to have to make.

Is there someplace else you could go. I think your vet could tell you if there is someother low cost vet around. I'm sure he does not want to see you put him down. Ask around your town or start calling vet offices. My step mother has to takes meds for addison disease also.

I had a dog with Addisons disease and it was treated with pills that were fairly inexpensive. He took two pills a day, one was prednisone (and I can't remember the other it's been quite a few years) So, you might want to ask your current vet about the steroid pills, or seek the advice of another vet. It's my understanding that this is an uncommon condition so your vet may not have treated it before and may not know all treatment options.
