can someone please help us, I have a 6 week old german sheperd. every thing she eats she throws up, the vet thought it was a virus, but after they examined her the vet said that her esophgas (not sure how to spell) is to small that we should feed her chunks of meet, we tried that but she still got sick after she ate. She is going back on Thursday but i was hoping maybe someone else might have been thru this and could give me a suggestion.

I think I saw something like this on emergencie vet on t.v. The pup could not hold anything down either. He would ony recieve very small amounts of food. Not enough for survival though. I am not sure what it is called . They performed surgery, but the outcome was not good. I'm sorry I did not have any better news for you. Hopefully the odds are not against you pup and your vet can do something.

Does your puppy eat fast? Sometimes they eat so fast they vomit. What are you feeding your pup- you may have to try a better quality of food- it could really be so many things. Make sure your vet rules out everything possible, medically. Your pup is pretty young- it could be stress related from leaving the litter, his mother and adjusting to a new home, new foods etc. There are so many things that can cause this-make sure your pup is drinking lots of water and he should be going back to the vet regularly until this gets resolved, they need to be monitoring his weight gain and overall health and should be getting to the bottom of this problem- your pup is too young to let this go on for very long.

Did your vet mention megaesophagus? Did you talk to the breeder about this? ME does occur congenitally - do you know anything about the health of the parents? Did the breeder have the pup on solid food? How long have you had the pup?

At this age it could be constriction in the esophagus preventing food from passing through. May require surgery, or just careful monitoring of her food. After a more thorough look hopefully your vet will be able to tell you more.
