I have a min pin who is now 8 years old. He has been in relativly good health except for a bowel problem which has flaired up periodiaclly over the years since he was about 4 months old. The vet put it down to constipation.
He also has a bump under the skin on his chest below his neck which appears to move and is soft,the vet figured it is a fat deposit. He also had a small lump on his side(under the skin)about the size of a pea, we had thought that it was from rubbing on his harness where the metal "O" was.
Both lumps have been there for at least 4 years, neither seem to be sore or to bother him.
About a week ago he started to loose the hair from his side over the small bump. Prior to loosing the hair the hair was almost like it was glued together,we thought he had gotten into some sort of glue some how. The skin looks healthy where the hair is coming from, some flaking in that area, and the one pea sized bump has become many little bumps under the skin. Have not taken him to the vet as none of this seems to be bothering him.
However last night I thought he was dying, he took a spell of some sort with the following reactions -
I woke up to a scratching noise on the hardwood floor, it was him and all 4 legs were out to the side, moving irradiclatly which he could not control, he was flat on his stomach. I picked him up and he was shaking or trembling uncontrolably , his nose was not hot (no temperature),nor was his tummy hard (as it gets with the bowel problem) His eyes were very bugged out, he was panting very hard with his tounge hanging out to one side, and he was druling.
This lasted for about 20 minutes, and scared me to tears,(Im getting to old to loose pets)
he continued to not be able to stand up but could sit on his butt. His front legs seemed to be very ridgid. after another 10 minutes he seemed to calm down and be ok, he curled under the blanket and went to sleep.
About 20 minutes later he got off the couch and again began to pant and have no banance in his body and severe panting with the tounge to the side of the mouth, but not nearly as bad as he had been earlier. It only lasted about 10 minutes this time.
He curled up and went to sleep with me and when he got up 2 hours later he seemd fine.
NO panting ,walking fine and eyes looking ok, back to normal. He has been out to pee, and seems fine at the moment.
Can any one tell me what is happening, would it have been a seisure?? If so what would cause this?? What can I do to prevent this from happening again?? If it happens again what should I do???

I would say that definitely sounds like a seizure. I would call your Vet and see what they want you to do. I don't take any chances and call my Vet about everything out of the ordinary. He is great to me.

i have to agree it does sound like a seizure of some sort and a vet should have been seen straight away as i dont mean to be blunt could be a sign of something seriously wrong like a brain tumour or epilepsy have your dog checked immediatly keep us posted

Sounds like a grand Mal seizure. Vet check A.S.A.P. Seizures can be controlled with phenobarbitol, most of the time. Though there can come a time when it will no longer help. If this was his first one it surely was a long one. They say dogs don't feel pain when this happens, but it can cause brain damage if you just let it go on. A gal I know at a poodle forum I know of has been having really bad problems with her poor standard. She is right now at a point where(the dog) is not quite the same and sort of disorianted. Poodle went thru a terrible time a seizures and was put in emencie center for nearly a week. Just take him and have the vet do some tests on him. Sometimes they can not find a reason for it. My poodle has very small seizures maybe twice a year. They are very scarey. Sister poodle is much worse like your min pin.

Also try adding some pumpkin into your dogs diet for his constipation.
