Hi Everyone! I was hoping to get some tips on treating 'dry flaking skin' on my dogs back. It appears to be on his back (along the spine), starting just below where the collar sits, all the way down towards the base of his tail. He's also been loosing hair along this area, which was the way i was able to really tell if it was a problem. Really, i wish it never became a problem/situation. But now, i'm hoping for Seborrhea, than a Thyroid problem/situation. Does anyone have experiance w/ diagnosing Thyroid problems, and treatment for it? How much would that cost, & how long?? Also, any other suggestions as to what this could be and treatment would be GREATLY appreciated. PLEASE help... Thank You. hi there, there is a couple of things that can becausing this, walking dandruff, causes large amounts of flaky skin over neck and back,, sebaceous adenitis, symetrical loss of hair along neck and back dandruff scales and hair follicle infection can occur, seborrhea, which cause all the same symptoms all can be treated by the vet and the right shampoo given if left untreated this matter can become to servere to corrct and hair will not grow back... my advice take your dog to the vets to have a check over as he will almost certainly be getting itchy keep us posted IP: Logged |

About six months ago my dog had the exact same problem. I took her to the vet and he couldnt really tell me what was causing it. He took a skin sample and checked it for different things but nothing showed up. In the end he changed her dog food and gave her antibiotics and within a couple of weeks her skin cleared up and her fur started growing back. Take her to the vet because you may be worrying for no reason. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi SandyGirl: Can you P L E A S E answer these few questions for me? It would DEFINATLY give me a better idea & understanding to narrow down the possibilities of what this actually is. 1-What type of skin sample did your vet take (skin scrape or skin biopsy)? THANK YOU SO MUCH!! IP: Logged |

Did you bathe your dog recently? I bathed my dog about 4 days ago and I noticed that his skin was doing the same thing. I mean you probably haven't but, just in case, it could be the shampoo, or not enough rinsing. Just an idea........wouldn't want you to waste money on a vet for nothing. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hey Everyone! Thanks for your replies! You know what, i've also been considering that it is actually the shampoo that i've been using. But the thing is is that i've used a number of different "good" type of shampoos. Are they all bad?!? I hav'nt really looked into the ingredients in the shampoo's that i've used on him so far to narrow down the possible allergen. I'm thinking if it has anything at all to do w/ bathing, it is probably 1, or all of these 3 things causing these bumps. 1-All of the shampoo's that i've used on him are bad for him. 2-I'm rubbing him too hard when bathing (either when shampooing or rinsing). 3-Rubbing him too hard when towel drying. PLEASE tell me what you all think about this, and what can be the reason? Also, can you recommend a good type of shampoo? Thanks Again.... IP: Logged |
