Yesterday I showed my 1 year golden retriever sandy a stuffed toy that sang happy birthday, and ever since , she has been taking my daughters stuffed toys and putting them underneath her and whining when I take them away from her. She has never had any puppies, but is it possible that she thinks these stuffed animals are her babies or something. Please help because I think its very strange.

Is your dog spayed? I had the strangest thing happen with my Husky before she was spayed. When she heard an alarm clock go off (our was a little high pitched "beep-beep") she would run and look for it, take it in her mouth and then run off, hide, curl up in a ball, stuffing the clock into her tummy, trying to calm or quiet it down and whined if it didn't stop. When it finally stopped she seemed like a satisfied nursing mother- would leave the clock, but return to it often, checking on it, licking it. She would take any and all clocks in the house that had any type of alarm, and keep them in her "nest". She was also somewhat protective of them and was concerned if one disappeared. It was the strangest thing! But, rather cute I have to admit. I attributed it to a nesting/mothering instinct. And, when I had her spayed, she lost her interest in alarm clocks.
I would recommend that you spay your dog soon,if you haven't. I waited too long and my dog developed mammory cancer at 6 years old. She is now 16, so it wasn't life threatening, but still- get it done asap if you are not planning on breeding.
My guess is your dog wants to be a momma- and the noise it hears and soft cuddly animals it is coming from is bringing out her mothering instincts.

Thanks a lot for your response. No she is not spayed yet but I will have to get her done now as soon as possible.My dog is doing the exact same thing as yours did. Thanks very much for your advice.
