does anyone out there own a shiba inu? i'm curious to know if you also find that they are stubborn about having their leash put on etc, and they are extremely aggresive & territorial around other dogs (they are fine & loving toward people, children & babies...but not other dogs.)

I don't own one but this was my first choice when I first decided I wanted a dog. Once I started doing the research I got a little discouraged, from what I could tell Shiba's didn't seem like a pet for first time dog owners, but they are beautiful looking dogs.

I know this thread is rather old.. but I own a Shiba Inu named Bear.. I've never had troubles putting leashes on him and he's never been aggressive with other dogs, just extremely curious.

shibas are beautiful! they have the same temperemant as akitas but because of there size they are easier to handle. and yes they can be very stubborn but with a little bit of encouragement and training you can manage to get them to do what you want. i havent mastered this with my akita though haha. dont listen to what people say about this group of dogs being agressive, especially to other dogs. im a firm believer in socialising these dogs and NOT hiding them from other pets. i know alot of breeders of akitas keep their dogs away from other peoples and they all seem to be very dominant, agressive and have weird things wrong with them like you cant touch their heads or backs etc. its up to the owner how the dog will turn out so if you want a shiba and you think youd make a good owner by all means get one! you wont regret it.

Hey I have 2 Shibas. I have had 3 total, 1 died a few years ago. They are great dogs, very adaptable to the weather- they love being outside and are just as good inside. My dogs do not like being toied up on leashes. They are very curious and like to play and run-a lot of energy.
